Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Looks like one of Trek's Fixed-Gear bikes, which would make sense considering he owns a Trek shop....

Cue someone ignoring the two pages of excited cyclists and just talking about how Mash sucks and has done nothing for the community...

I met Lance last year. I was really unimpressed with him...no wait, it was the other way around.

Good link, that one made me smile. I liked the, "Okay, I'm going to go fast now" bit as he crested the hill with everybody. I bet there were a few looks back and forth between the guys:

"You gonna get on his wheel?"
"Nope!"

It looks like a Trek Soho... I don't even know what to think about that

There were some photos of lance riding around on a tall bike a bit back as well. Seems he fraternizes with more than just the roadie crowd which is rad

yeah, my bad...I don't know the guys that well...could have been a video taken in www.garrettindiana.us for all I know. Either way, his cadence is up there!
I'm jealous sitting here in my office...I'd like to call home and say, "honey, I won't be home tonight, I'm taking my bike, getting on a plane/bus/etc and going to shoot videos of me and the boys rippin' it up!...and I won't be home for a while, so make sure the boys get fed and attend soccer practice."

My wifey wrote that article and we got to go down for the Grand opening party in May. \m/
Lance was pretty rad and took us mountain biking on his ranch when we were all hung over.

Hi, just wondering,

What's so cool about the Mash crew? (I get the Lance part, fair enough)
but I don't get the "riding fast as hell through traffic and red lights like I don't care" so much fun..

Anyone willing to share the coolness?

I don't think it is very cool either but I guess that if you don't live in a city, aggressive riders like this are "cool" when in fact, it is a part of every day cycling in a large city.

They do have nice bikes though, that Ciocc Enemy in particular, but yeah, I don't see the appeal either.

I did like it when Lance was talking to the cops; I imagine it was something along the lines of "Yeah, sorry officer, just a little bit of horse play, we will turn it down a notch" whereas, if he hadn't been there, the cops would have ticketed everyone. Star-power.

I'll bet he just pulled that bike off the rack from the shop. Mustache bars? Too weird for him.

And is he just wearing sneakers with no retention? I can't quite tell.

Nothing. BF members are obsessed with them.

i'd probably bet that since they're all on track bikes, the guy who drops lance has a bit larger gear ratio than everyone else.

If it has to be explained to you then you're way out of the loop or you're too old to get it.

It's not a signature bike from Mellow Johnny's, it was created by Trek to be released on the MJ store opening and its not the same bike that lance is posing with in that magazine cover either.

Well I'm 29, don't think it's too old
AM I out of the loop, well I guess so, if the coolness appeal doesn't work for me.
I take it the video is cool to watch, no doubt about it, but it seems like it's "cool to be cool and do as they do (or wish)".

By the way, I assume that by your answer you're "totally in the loop" and so young you're cool
