Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I take it the video is cool to watch, no doubt about it, but it seems like it's "cool to be cool and do as they do (or wish)".

By the way, I assume that by your answer you're "totally in the loop" and so young you're cool
Don't get your panties in a bunch, it was a joke comment. What kind of question is that anyways? Its popular because there's enough people watching it, no different than motorcycle stunting videos or skateboarding videos. Its popular by the people who do that kind of activity and if you need someone to explain it to you then its not an issue of age or being in the loop but rather lack of basic common sense.

Man, I was just about to comment on this!

That's Leo Kottke playing first (Busted Bicycle is the name of the song I believe; I know it's on an album called "6 & 12 String Guitar", which has a picture of an armadillo on the front (and is known as the armadillo album)). The outro is Meat Puppets, "The Whistling Song" off II.

Great soundtrack!

Bikes: 2 wheels...

cool vid. it's great that both sides could get over themselves for a bit and get together for some cool footage.

if you think that any of them "dusted" lance, watch the last 30sec with the downhill descent, and watch him just take off. They're all spinning out while he's still pushing it (and his gear ratio is small than theirs)

Bikes: Check the sig to find out

I found it funny some of the riders are riding safer, than Lance, with a helmet yet they have no brakes
Also Lance is rocking a brake so he can descend a lot faster without kicking up too much of an issue when he has to stop
great vid though. had me smiling all the way through

It'd be easy for someone like Lance to pshaw the fixed scene, but it's cool he is down to earth enough to be involved.

Bikes: '02 Lemond Buenos Aires, '98 Fuji Touring w/ Shimano Nexus premium, '06 Jamis Nova 853 cross frame set up as commuter, '03 Fuji Roubaix Pro 853 back up training bike

How hard do you think Lance and other cyclists worked to get Austin to be a bike friendly community? How hard did they work to change motorists attitudes away from "bikes don't belong on streets", "bikes are a hazard", and "I'm never letting my kid ride in the streets."
All this is getting ruined by these jackasses and the publicity from the video. If I was a cop, I'd force them to put on a 7-speed MegaRange cassette, two U-brakes, and GripShift's lowest level twisters, and a Hannah Montana helmet. Let's them parade around town on that setup.

Bikes: All have flats.

Lance Armstrong sold out. How sad. He went beyond the token Cancer wristbands to the Fixster Hoodie.
I wonder if he was prepping for the Nike MASH clothing line coming up this fall. All of your favorite windbreakers, sneakers, and shorts, MASH ridden, Armstrong approved!
Gobble it up, you failed BMXers! This Anal refuse is sure to skyrocket on the Ebay!

it's either 3/18 or 30/88.
Or, look at the terrain, look at the spin, look at the size of their drivetrains [naughty!]. Different pedalstrokes for different folks.
