It weird how much different 'Pedal' and 'Tribe' are, and how different they make the messenger industry seem. I don't know any real messengers, so I don't know which is more accurate, but tribe makes messengers and messenger companies seem more humanitarian. Pedal depicts an industry that exploits riders, chews them up and leaves them. Pedal is about NYC, though. Maybe Canadians are just nicer?
I have to say, the tribe show was pretty lame. It was like watching a movie adaptation of these peoples' facebook profiles.

Imagine riding your bike 9 hours a day, in traffic, in a blizzard, literally brushing with death on a daily basis, and your reward is
No health/dental insurance
Sometimes less than minimum wage
No vacation days
No sick days
No lunch break
No real-world job experience
No respect from police, citizens, or security guards
And then add on top of that
Supplying your own tools (your bike/bag/lock) and having to constantly repair/ upgrade them on your own dime
Paying the company to rent your radio
Not having taxes taken out of your check, meaning you owe a ton at the end of the year
Exploitative, yes. The companies use you and then when you get hurt or can't take it anymore, BYE BYE and some other schmuck steps up. There's literally an inexhuastable supply of messengers somehow... they keep coming out of the woodwork

So if I was watching a documentary about a doctor and he's looking in the camera going "I save lives. My job is all about the sophisticated techniques used to save lives. You have to be really smart and really steady to be a doctor, because we are the most important people in society, as we have to save everyone else." I'd be like shut up you egotistical dick.

Disruption
Posts which intend to disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the topic away from the focus of the forum and related news. Disruption can include harassment, multiple user profiles, multiple posting of the same post and posting completely off topic messages. Please do your best when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Excessive use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive so please keep it to a minimum. Private messages are to be kept private and never posted in the forums.
And here's another reminder.
Intelligence
We’re a community with quality standards and expect our members will make a sincere effort to contribute their thoughts on interesting subjects in a meaningful and respectful manner. Posting messages and otherwise interacting on BikeForums is completely optional; many members often prefer to just read what others have to say. But if you do post, we expect that you’ll be respectful of the time of others by posting meaningfully.
Rather than delete this thread, I went ahead and did some clean up. Please maintain a sense of intelligence on here.
Thank you.

The messenger industry is probably the most exploitative industry in America, besides operations that hire illegal immigrants.

I already said I don't like when anyone makes a big deal about themselves
So if I was watching a documentary about a doctor and he's looking in the camera going "I save lives. My job is all about the sophisticated techniques used to save lives. actually, no, i'm not too young to remember the 80's.
i don't really understand what you're trying to say though?
if you're referring to the average "quality" of hip-hop music in the 80's, as opposed to today.... i don't know what to tell you. haha. maybe you're the one who needs to do some investigating then.
i'm sure "sunny-d" is a real great person and all, but that doesn't make her attempt at rapping any less terrible.

It was the best job I ever loved. 6 years ripping up Montreal. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
Them's all good folks in the video, and yes Sunny's fast. Producers had their way with it. Just like their 'Dirtiest Jobs" series. Trying to skitch on modern tribalism, come on Discovery, where's the discovery?

What I was pointing out was your flawed logic. Can you understand that? You say it is the best job ever then in your next post you slam the industry for all that is wrong with it. So which is it the best or worst job ever?

I'll have to chime in to say ...work wise, bestest, industry treatment of the worker wise... severely lacking. If many of the industry's , ahem, liberties were to be resolved I'd wager you'd see many many more messengers sticking with it for the longer haul, which would be result in better service for the customers overall. Stop over hiring in the summer would be a good place to start.

Well, without knowing her, that Discovery Channel show has painted her in a petty, self indulgent light. I accept that 99% of it is probably due to stereotyping, editing and production on the part of the show producers though.

No real world job experience? your kidding right? please, I know more about how the legal system works than many of the attorneys I work for LOL. Find me someone that can juggle lots of things at the same time, not screw things up, can handle some legal work, and you will make in excess of $30 per hour even in freakin Columbus Ohio. Wanna just sling packages and stay away from having to do any thinking other than routing, you can do that too and still make $20/hr easy. If your gonna run tags for more than a year or two, work for yourself and drop the nonsense of making someone else money, your clients will get better service and you will love your job. Sure, it takes some skill and effort, running any business does.
