Ok. Update! I went to my LBS and asked them to install my cog on their hubs.
1. Formula hub - Went it with a little force by hand.
2. Dura ace hub - Got stuck in the middle (Same issue with my hub).
So now I'm really confuse. I'm forcing the damn thing by hand right now and still won't go in. I don't have a 1/8 whip right now so this install will have to wait

if you force it, you're gonna strip the threads on the hub and have to get a new hub (unless you got double fixed hubs), plus pay to have a new wheel built unless you can build one yourself. Just get a new cog.

I won a 17t 1/8 EAI cog from bens on ebay last week. Something went wrong with my paypal payment and so my order was delayed. After reading this thread, I spoke with someone at ben's and they told me that they pulled the entire batch of 17t EAI cogs because they were indeed questionable. So I ended up going with the Milwaukee 17t cog.
Anyone have any experience with the Milwaukee cogs?

sorry for resurrecting but i bought my 1/8 17t eai cog from bens in the first week of october after the complaints in this thread
i'm wondering if all eai cogs are hard to put on, meaning you can only get them on a little before they get stuck (then you have to force it on any more)
out of the three hubs i tried i could only get it on one (after forcing it)
shouldn't the cog thread on all the way without having to put too much force?

Not necessarily, I think what he means is that for a while we were basically going through their NOS of 17t cogs, and it was only recently, when the market demand for their 17t cogs for sick skidz increased, did they start producing 17t cogs again. Maybe it's some quirk in the manufacturing process that cropped up in the first batch... who knows?
Mine worked fine, and it was almost definitely from the new batch. I ordered it from Ben's and they were out of stock of these for months before I ordered mine. I assume this was the lag time between when they ran out of NOS and when their first batch of new cogs ecame available.

no, mine came from some random ebay seller.
Anyway, I worked a bit with lots of grease and my DA chainwhip and I managed to get the cog on without having to resort too much to violence but I still bit pissed about this. If DA cog went on nice and smooth, why didn't EAI fit just as good?
And for the record, I've had Soma, DA, Cobra and no-name cogs previously and never had any issues with getting them to fit to Formula, DA or Miche hub threads.

I had this same problem as well with my DP-18s laced to formulas. After carefully inspecting and cleaning the threads, with no progress, I just decided to grease up the cog (surly 17t) and screw it on with firm but not excessive force (with the chain whip). It went on fine and the threads on the hub are fine as well. . .

has anyone gotten feedback from eai or ben's?
someone who ran into the issue should put a post together and have a mod sticky it, this could be really frustrating, esp. considering that there are certainly shop rookies out there who would try wrenching the cog on...
