Vittoria Diamante Prolight
only 175 grams but how rideable would these be on the streets? how many miles/kms would you expect from a tire (racing tire) like this?

Hey, racing tires are great. Light, nice, fast, etc.
Using them in the streets? Terrible idea. One sliver of glass or sharp rock and you're done-zo.
Krylion Carbons or Randonneurs FTW.

If you're going for the Diamantes, skip the Lights, you won't notice the weight difference and they wear much quicker then the regulars. I run the regular diamantes daily on nyc streets and while they definitely wear quicker, I've yet to suffer any punctures or sidewall separation horror stories you hear about. There is a definite tradeoff with durability (these aren't gatorskins, and excessive skidding will only end in tears) but the ride quality benefit is well worth it for me personally. I now use my Cont GP4000s as a rear on my trainer and when I feel like ****ing around brakeless.

I have the rubino as my front tire current. What is weird though is that the casing of the tire lists a higher pressure rating than their website for some reason. Seems to be wearing slowly and isn't too heavy.

I use racing tires on all my bikes, I don't flat too often, you just have to be careful. I like Michelin Pro Race 2s or Rubino Pros. They are both about $30 or so from PBK (they have a 15% off sale right now, if you didn't notice).

fwiw, i think pbk and many other places are out of pro2s— they have most of the pro3s in, though.
hughes— conti's GP and chili compound tires are fairly popular among the road riders i know around here, most of whom do 100-200 mi/wk. i'm not sure you'd want the force in the rear unless you're not skipping or skidding, though.
