I suppose since it is a track bike, (or should I say "tarck"?) that it was configured for the track and not the street.

In defense of the original poster: I am running both front and rear brakes on my upcoming conversion, but I know for a fact I am going to skid once in a while. That was one of my favorite things to do on a bike when I was a little kid and it still hasnt gotten old (not that I dont enjoy riding too).

It costs $100 to join our local velodrome. For $100 you get to practise every Monday and Tuesday evening and race on Thursday nights and Saturdays for a whole season. The Kilo and entry level bikes like it are perfect for someone that wants to have some fun on the cheap and actually use a track bike on a track.
I'm constantly amazed that some people on this forum still think that riding a track bike or riding fixed for that matter is brand new. People have been doing it long before men wearing girls pants was fashionable.

I never skid on my bike, as it has a front brake. So why would I skid? It (sliding and breaking traction) is definitely not the fastest/efficient way to stop or else you'd see Formula One cars skidding into every turn.
Why should one get a road bike just because they don't skid? The benefits like a great work out from riding a fixed gear can't be had without skidding? Give me a break.
Not everyone who rides fixed does so to do skids and tricks. I love skids and tricks, but I'd rather get back on my 20" BMX or my skateboard for such things.
Some of you guys are extremely close minded.

I pre-ordered a kilo tt pro in sept.
I never checked the gearing until today. apparently the rear cog is a 16t and the front chainring is a 48t, per the skid patch calculator in the gearing supplement sticky thread this combo of 16t and 48t results in a whopping 1 skid patch!
Not that I am skidding at every stop, going for super long skids on my commute nor am I not aware that you can easily change out the rear cog for a 17t etc, however it just boggles my mind why bikesdirect bikesdirect.com would choose this gearing combination? Also, I am kind of irritated that I will sooner than later have to spring some more $$$ for another rear cog, and knowing myself I'll probably go out and get atleast a soma or surly which is ~$30 after shipping.
summary: kilo tt pro only has 1 skid patch!!!!!!!!!!! spend mo money for a another cog
