Phils and deep V's or Aerospokes?

Well, its time for a new wheelset and a Phil Wood/Velocity Deep V setup costs about the same as a set of Aerospokes, i know the Aerospokes are heavier (only by 500grams) but what would you guys do?

I really am undecided between the two.

For what its worth i weigh 205lbs, i dont know if thats an issue or not

Buy some rims that are lighter...you won't regret it

I built up a sun front rim *POS $30 rim* to replace my front, and i ****ing ROMP on my bike (doing tricks I slam the front down all the time putting way more stress than 99% of people will do to their fixed gear) and I haven't had it go out of true or bend AT ALL

I had my LBS hand build it and I brought it back for them to recheck tension after a few days...spot on for 2+ weeks now of riding down cobblestone roads, jumping curbs, bunny hops, whatever the **** I throw at it.

Did I mention that the wheel, tube, and tire is lighter than just my deep v wheel by itself?

IMO, Deep-V's are overrated...go with something lighter, fuzion, aerohead...something else

PS.

I'm 210 lbs to boot

Get something better than either option.

That being said, I run a Deep V up front because i needed a new wheel when I bent mine and it was polished silver so it "matches" my rear.

I'd go v's before aerospoke.

500g is more than a pound and is A LOT in rotational weight.

A phil wood hub will last you a lifetime. An aerospoke will not. Especially when the trend wears out. And seriously, please don't put a deep v on a phil wood. It's like putting armstrong on a walmart bike. It's heavy, not aero, not special and nothing of noteworthy.

A set of phil woods to aeroheads costs roughly 480 from prowheelbuilder (I just looked yesterday). Im pretty sure aerospokks are like 450 a piece, so I think your pricing is quite off brothaaaah.

Are you going for performance or looks? For performance, obviously get the the lighter rim set. For looks, Deep Vs or Arrospok!

Open Pro laced to Phil Wood. 32h. Keep it classy.

I'd actually go with OPs laced to Dura Ace, but there's NOTHING wrong with Phils.

Bikes: yes

I'd buy a DT Swiss rim before a Deep V, and I'd buy a punch to the nads before an Aerospoke.

ive heard with the h plus rims the deep section combined with low quality alloy/construction causes the sidewall to ripple under tension, particularly with radial laced wheels. sounds like they are just form over function.

If I were to pick a rim, I would be much more inclined to pick the Velocity Aerohead over the Deep-V. Aeroheads are light and strong. Deep-V's are...well, they're plenty strong.

Aeroheads laced onto Phil hubs: those are classy wheels. Those who are worth impressing will be impressed by them.

Ive heard aerospokes will break..i wouldn't even think of going with them. Phils and another wheelset should be the obvious choice.

I can get a set of Aerospokes for $618.00 shipped brand new (that is front and rear)

And wheelbuilders have priced me around $550.00 for Phils on whatever all built up, so the price is pretty close.

But really, seriously are aerospokes just hated on, or are they really that bad?

If you're using them to look fashionable, then they're just being hated on for being a tad played-out. Guys who've been riding Aerospokes for years now look like they're just another head in a herd and they're a little bitter about it.

If you plan on racing on them, your fellow trackies will question why you're apparently going out of your way to race on the worst possible wheels. They weigh way too much, they're rarely in true, their hubs have tons of drag.
