Riser Help

Just bought a set of risers and want to chop em. Don't have any tools (specifically hacksaw). Any suggestions on places (live in the D.C. area) where could possibly get this done? All advice is welcome...

All you need is a hacksaw. Either spend a few bucks and buy one (you will probably use it for other things later), or ask a neighbor/friend if they have one. Maybe a co-op if you have one around.

pipe cutter is a way better idea because its always straight, although it might mushroom the end a bit, but its a better choice then a hack saw.

1. Go to Home Depot with riser bars in hand.
2. Go to TOOLS section.
3. Find a pipe cutter, cut bars, put pipe cutter back on shelf.
4. Go home and install bars.

Just to add to the chorus. Pipe cutter. $2.99 at the chinese hardware store + 2.5 minutes. Voila, chopped risers. Dope. People will watch you ride down the street in awe. Believe me, I know.

From my experience (and I am a N00b), I would spend the money on a pipe cutter. Nice clean and straight cut.

Now, I did use a hack saw on my first set of cut bars and it just required a little filing to clean up the cut.

But once the grips or tape goes on there no way to tell what you used to cut the bars with.

pipe cutter, unless they are carbon.

I've used the sawzall and hacksaw, both are much more of a pain and the cuts need finishing work.

So what difference does it make, grips go on, people can't see the cut.
It's so easy to use one's brain.
