Damn spacers, not the first time someone said they should go When i got the horns i had no bartape and a friend gave me his which was only red, so we did it in red. I need matching red rims or tires to make it a little more tarck.

Just a rear fender, and not the right size.

peugeot:

-strange brake lever placement (front should be on the left & up higher on the bars)

-I would use 2 brakes on that set-up (for a more balanced look & for practicality as far as giving you 2 hoods to use as a hand position, if they were placed in the right place on the bars)

-looks like the gear ratio is huge, but that depends on the rear cog (how many teeth?)

-get full fenders for front & back....& ones that fit

nice bike non-the-less

Thanks... I know most people thin the brake position is odd although one older guy told me that I must live in the drops...

I tried the lower brake set up as an experiment and liked it there... As I spend a lot of time in the drops (on this bike) this puts the brake at the end of my fingertips and because it is an old style Mafac lever (non aero) I always brake from the drops to get the best leverage and maximum pull.

I run all my front brake / brakes moto style (on the right).

Gear ratio is 77 gear inches... there's an 18 in the back.

The rear fender is removable and for the most part, this is a fair weather bike.

"Are you trying for the hour record with that chain ring? "

See my note on gearing... I like running big rings and larger cogs.

The crank is a modern Peugeot branded Sakae / SR with a 52 tooth Sugino chain ring.

I have managed to do 10 mile runs in times of 22 minutes with this old bike but I don't think I am up for attempting the hour record any time soon.

That is a really nice build...the Rudge chainwheel is brilliant and I like the fact you left the patina the way it was.

The spoon mount for the reflector is another nice touch although that bolt should be silver and not brass.

awesome bike. leave the brass bolt, it looks classy. I'd replace the reflector with a little silver bullet light or something though. get some clips and nice leather straps, the patina looks just right, so I would probably spray the bike down with clear coat or wax it so it won't rust

The spoon has garnered two memorable comments. One that I have a silver spoon up my rear, the other, from my little girl, that there is a flower on the back of my bike. I mainly used a silver spoon for the bracket because I wanted a counterpoint to the rough textured finish. The bike has five coats of semigloss clear coat.

so it's a fun bike & you have a good reason for the "strange" ways some things are set up?

hmmmm.....i think this is a good example of ....just because a bike doesn't look "dialed in" doesn't mean it isn't!
