How far will fixed tricks go? (video link thread)
This is perhaps the photo that made me think, how far will this go? I mean people have been doing these tricks on bmx for a very long time. I'm not sure how I feel about it, perhaps its just the challenge of riding a bike that wasn't designed for those types of tricks that attracts people to it. Kinda reminds me of the whole long board thing in skateboarding when people were doing street tricks on longboards. Needles to say it never really caught on. It remains a novelty, but this fixed gear thing is gaining momentum. Anyway whenever I'm bored or at work, I can't resist youtube, and I'm sure there are some of you who can't either, so post the most ridiculous fixed gear videos you can find

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the skaters would not allow it to contunue past the initial laugh factor. They can't even stand the bmxers.

i think it could go two ways, either in the direction of roller-blading (nearly extinct) or skateboarding/bmx. if you look at the skateboards people were riding and the tricks people were doing on them in the 70's you would never guess that people would be doing switch 360 flips to lip-slides down 30 stair handrails (not an actually trick done, maybee? i dont follow skateboarding anymore). The tricks people do on fixed gears now look similar to the skateboard tricks being done in the 70's/80/'s, alot of spins and twirls and stalls and such. but you will see some crazy fixed tricks snuck in there, back in the early 90's a 360 flip was insane, now its mandatory. i think fixed gear tricks could continue but eventually the equipment will change and probably look like i large bmx with a fixed wheel and 700x25 tires.

all the cool kids know that you don't need an NJS stamped track frame with bmx stems and ugly risers to do tricks.

but seriously, i think this "fixie trix" thing is getting out of hand. it's not cool to have your crotch on your handlebar while you do skidzz or bend your fork with your mom's car so you can barspinzz. i'm an avid skater also myself and skateboarding tricks don't come in a few days, it takes months and maybe years. anyone can learn how to barspin and skid in days. like many other people have said, go get a bmx. it's cooler and won't hurt your crotch if you miss a trick.
p/s: i'll bet you some of the people in the videos posted don't even know who eddy merckx and theo bos are.
