Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? help with my setup,

hey,

looking for some advice with a new setup i´m building,

i´ve got this MTB frame, a 4300 trek, i want to convert to a fixie,

my problem is that i want to run something like a 48/14 gear ratio, which with my chainstays being the way they are would mean running my chainring where the outer chainring on my crank would go, which means I´ve got an almighty chainline problem, every rear hub i can find is set to run off the middle ring,

does anyone know of a rear singlespeed hub that can run fixie that has chainline that would suit,

or any other wild or wacky solutions to my problem, anything is welcome,

Cheers,

44/13 would be almost the same, and give you more skid patches

what do you mean would ¨give you more skid patches¨

a 44t wouldn´t fit past my chainstays on the middle ring, hence my problem,

what would fit?
run that x a 13, and you might get away with it.

36x13 is like 48x17, which is kind of a standard gear, i believe

i´m currently running a 42/12 ratio so the drop to 36/13 would be from 45.2kph to 35.8kph at 100rpm, that sounds like i would be spinning my legs away all the way home,

48/14 on a MTB conversion seems way high to me. 50 GI or so is recommended for off road fixed gear stuff & whatnot. Unless you plan to use a MTB fixie on the street? even so 48/14 is STILL high

IMO run a 38T in the middle & find a cog size that works for what you're gonna be doing on the bike
