Converting a chainwhip to 1/8

I have been trying to take a normal chain whip and make it work with a 1/8 chain. The problem is I can't figure out any way to get the old chain out. The rivets that are holding the chain in place won't budge (trying hammering, drilling, ect). This is driving me nuts. What should I do?

Remove as much chain as possible and then drill another hole and install new 1/8" chain?

You asked. There's not going to be any solid answers beyond keep hackin'.

i was able to convert my cheap nashbar one. the trick is to leave one link of the old 3/32" since as you discovered the rivets aren't easily removable. splice in 1/8" links onto the one link of 3/32" for both areas of the whip and it'll work...

Apparently I am just a newb. I tried again with a drill and it worked well. For future reference if anyone ever searches this topic I found a 5/32 drill bit worked best. Just had to drill the small side of the rivet until the top had been removed and then the rest of the rivet pin came out.

Just leave a link or 2 of the 3/32' chain and pin the 1/8" to that. Works fine here.
