So other than a towel wrapped in electrical tape or a belt with "bondage" tape, does anyone know of any other solutions? Or perhaps a cheaper TT protector?

The towel in electrical tape IRO is mine

And the top tube protector is no more. I've got a strip of aluminum I cut and fit to the frame where the bars slap the frame. Looks pretty kick ass now. I'll put up some pictures in a bit when I have time.

So far the belt is pretty imaginative but that's not going to go with the look I'm trying to achieve. I'd like to see the aluminum when you get that chance to post it.

Top Tube Protection

I haven't seen my idea posted anywhere yet.

I used a velcro chainstay protector on my top tube. I think it looks better than most and cost only $7.

I love the graphics on my top tube and didn't want to scratch 'em when locking it up.

Well, here it is:

No dents on the frame from the bars. And I now just have a rag or something that I put over the top tube when I lock it up to something like a brick pillar or anything like that. Quite a bit better than that ghetto rigged top tube protector I had on there before.

I wrap the back half of my top tube with the same bar tape I use on my bars.

This makes the bike "stick" to whatever I lean it against, and it protects the tube from scratches.

When the bar tape starts to shred and fray, I replace it.

The bar tape also turns the top tube into a nice handle when picking up the bike, and it also provides a surprising amount of comfort when I put the top tube on my shoulder and walk with the bike.

As for top tube pads, I saw the prices on the internet and hence commissioned my girlfriend to make me one. It looks just as good to me as anything I saw for sale.

Hey, steppinthefunk, what brand name does this non-sticky self fusing tape go by. I went looking for it once at the hardware store and nobody knew what the hell I was talking about.
