Cagers certainly don't love that, but i certainly don't give a ****, especially when there is another lane on my left side with no bicycle in it. They get the hint and use it.

hostile much?

If I'm driving and I see someone on a bicycle riding in a respectful way I give them all the room they need. If they are riding like asses I don't.

Sounds like you are one of those riders I would pass without giving much room and not feel bad about it.

In fact you'll get more respect when you are assertive on the road and don't hug the curb like a ***** all the time. And it's not like i give a **** what some cager thinks when i'm out riding.

oddly enough, both of these are somewhat true.
hug the curb and get swerved, sworn, thrown at
take the entire lane and drivers will hate you still.

you shouldn't really be a *****, but try not to be an ******* also.

i guess you've just got to go with the flow.

nothing wrong with that. I do what needs to be done. I try to give room unless there is no option. There is a right and wrong time to take the lane. I try to be courteous of the vehicles around me

The gloves are coming off. A cager is you, someone in a car, where I suspect you spend most of your time. I think your that your problem is you saw your precious LA riding like the people you are complaining about. The fact that you would say you purposely endanger a fellow cyclist, any cyclist, is deplorable. Feel bad about it.

LA is not my precious. If you wander outside the fixie forum and read some of the things I have said about him here and on other forums you would know that. All I saw was people on bikes swerving through traffic, doing things to draw the drivers attention from the roads. I saw them go through traffic at red lights causing cars to lock brakes. I saw people on bikes acting like asses.

As for endangering cyclists, I see people like that as people on bicycles, not cyclists. A cyclist has respect for others around them, wether they be on bicycles, walking or in cars. People like those in the video obviously have no respect for those around them.

And for the record, I put more miles on my bike last year than I did my car. So once again, you made the wrong call.

jtarver 02-08-09 05:54 PM

So you feel justified endangering people in general?

If you are riding irratically and swerve in front of my car, yea I'll feel bad. But I won't take any of the fault cuz you're an ass on a bike. And I won't give you the same level of respect and room I would somebody paying attention to those around them and riding with some restraint and respect for their enviroment.

Am i the only one who thinks that getting cagers' attention (not necessarily by cutting them off, and for the record that video in the first post was pretty tame) is better for all involved? I think getting noticed and showing drivers that there are cyclists out there is better than kissing the gutter playing nice and hoping the next suv will give you a bit more room when it passes.

I think there is a happy medium. Sure, letting them know you are there can be a god thing. But don't do it by swerving through traffic in front of them or blowing through stop signs. I mean, I
ll be the first to admit I think the way they were sliding was pretty cool, but there is a time and place for it, and thats not on a busy street.

I think most drivers are unaware of laws regarding cyclists, so they think you are breaking the law and feel justified acting like the OP. I think if you are only following the law or facilitating the smooth movement of traffic, anything goes. So, I agree and consider it a form of bike advocacy. I think this guy is just a weekend warrior who puts miles on on the shoulder, not as a commuter using his bike as primary transportation, and I think he's really unpleasant.

The "weaving" you think is dangerous is typically someone moving into a safer position to avoid a developing threat. Such as a right hook, or a car potentially edging into an intersection. That you would deliberately and knowingly put someone at risk because you don't understand how to ride a bike safely and because you have serious hostility issues is disgusting. You're a horrible excuse for a human being and I hope you contract some kind of terminal disease before you have an opportunity to run down and kill a cyclist for no better reason than the fact their riding style irks you. **** you

You are right, most people in cars are ignorant of laws concerning bicycles. Hell, a lot of cops are also. That doesn't justify acting like an ass.

Like I said earlier, I put more miles on my bike than my car last year. That included comuting to work by bike. My car was parked most of the summer. So you can tone down your hoier than thou attitude.

If I am unpleasent because I think we should share the road instead of taking it over then I guess you are right, I am. Why don't you just go back to planning your next critical mass event.

Just so you know, this is why bikeforums has a bad wrap.
