I'm going to craigslist all my bikes today so I can buy Trek's. Then I will quit my job, ignore my kids and break up with my wife so I can date a just turned 18 anorexic childstar. Then in three years I'll go ask for my job back.

another rule is that any bearded fixie rider has to drink out of a mini keg while riding through traffic.

But no to answer your question. There are no rules to riding a fixed gear. It is an ever evolving sport. There are currently fixed gear riders all over the world riding different types of bikes, with different styles. I think a lot of the Japanese riders are leading the way right now in innovation. They seem to be one step ahead.
