Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

whats the red crusier bike. one of the nicest cruiser bikes ive seen.

i wouldnt say i was as a good as rider as that guy, but i dont actually think riding in NY is really that bad. some of the driving is bad, but the road layout is really simple, its pancake flat and the roads are straight.

i live in london where the driving is just as bad, and the road system is crazy. its not as hilly as outside the city but still much more undulating and with some climbs difficult to achieve on a 70+gi fixie.

i had trouble at some of the big intersections and the fact the cars were on the wrong side of the road in NY, but nothing i couldnt get used to. i think some of the larger roundabouts i deal with in london more complicted.

in short i didnt see him do anything amazing. he ran a red, well ****ing done. he hopped down a curb, what dedicated riders dont do that a couple of times every ride. he might have been fast but i think thats partly down to the geography of NY. there was no climbs, long corners or any exciting roads.

do you really think hutchinson wants to show someone blasting down avenues or eating lights through crazy intersections? most competent messengers have no problem doing so, but it's not appropriate for a promotional video like that. - yeah, he rode off a loading dock, down curbs, over manholes/cobbles/glass and the tires didn't explode. that's the point of the video.
