sram s300 courier cranks?

I can't really find anything on them. Looked on srams site, and the only track cranks they have on there are the truvativ omniums.

Only thing I can find is that they use the GXP external bottom bracket that the omniums use.

Anyone know what the chainline is with this setup? I'm looking to upgrade from my shimano 105's that I have now, and I want to keep the chainline as close to 42mm as possible.

I wouldn't mind knowing the tread factor either.

Opinions?

Yeah haven't seen much info on these either.

Chain reaction lists them as:

SRAM S300 Chainset 1.1 Courier Mirror Black with GXP Cups.

• Forged 6061 AL arms, 130BCD
• 48T ring, 7075 AL
• Mirror Black
• Arm Length - 165, 170 or 175mm
• 2-piece, GXP cups included

I think they're a single ring version of the cross/road s300 cranks that they make. SRAM stuff tends to be nice and stiff.

Other info (from Universal Cycles):
# Integrated GXP-Team bottom bracket with external bearing cups (supplied with 68mm English cups, 70mm Italian cups sold separately: TV-2123)
# 130mm BCD with 48t 7075-T6 anodized chainring (for 3/32" chains), steel chainring bolts, and a capless CrMo M15 crank bolt
# 715g @ 170mm with 115g BB cupset (mirror black arms/bolts with grey-anodized chainring)

Yeah, that was basically all the information I could find on them as well.

They use the gxp bottom bracket which allows them to use sort of a thru axle directly connecting the crank arms, which should make it sort of like the omniums (stiff as ****).

And for the money, they seem alright.....unless they are going to give me some weird chainline or a rediculous tread factor.

But I was thinking of getting some omniums when I came across these, and these are about $100 cheaper.

I had these Bontrager cranks which is almost the same. Made by Truvativ (owned by SRAM.) It's a road crank adopted for SS/Track use. It's a nice stiff crankset - just nowhere as a blingy or eye-candy worthy as compared to the Omniums. It's about a 41mm chainline.

You would have found these as stock equipment on Lemond Fillmores, Trek T1s, etc.

i've got the cross version of the sram s300s in 172.5 with 46t ring. came as a double but i took off the little ring. probably have 700 miles on them. pretty stiff. the 46t ring on mine has pins but i've encountered zero problems. chainline is good.

SRAM S300 Courier Crankset

Does anyone have experience with this setup? or at least this type of crank/bb combo?

https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...s.php?id=26702

Any chainline issues with this type of crank?- which as I understand it, has the spindle permanently attached to/forged with one of the crank arms, and the bearings external to the BB shell - correct me if I'm not understanding it right.

Sorry about the dupe thread. It was 2AM and I was f'd up on pain meds (wisdom teeth).

Anywho, are there any particular maintenance issues to be aware of with this type of setup? Are the external cups sealed? Excuse my noobism, I'm just not familiar with these so-called "two-piece" cranks.

Nope, possibly less maintenance involved with this design since the cups are pretty well sealed. Installation is cake but only if the frame is properly faced. The spindle/bb cup tolerance is tight and will not slide in if the bb shell is not perfectly parallel.

this is definitely important. many shops/mechanics have gotten a little bit slack about BB facing since cartridge BBs are a little more forgiving in that regard, but external bearing cranksets require it.

since this is basically a cyclocross crankset with the ring on the inside, coudn't you just do this with any external BB crank? Such as the shimano hollowtech II cranks?
