Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

???'s about the Kilo TT Pro

I plan to order my first SS in two weeks. After looking at bikes both local and online, I settled on the Kilo TT Pro. This is my first time ordering from BD, so therefore I have a few questions.

1- How much assembly is required when a bike is purchased from BD?

2- The flip/flop hub... is the freewheel hub included or is this something extra I need to buy? This will be a commuter and I have no reason to use the fixed gear side.

3- Standover hieght... here's where I get in trouble. The smallest frame has a 29" standover. My exact inseam is like 29.5". I wear a 27" pant leg. I think I can adapt to this, but does anyone see any super huge issues here?? My only other option is going with 650 wheels or custom frame, neither one I can afford right now.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

I can't answer for bryyando, but I would not suggest getting the Windsor Clockwork as its standover height is actually greater than your listed inseam.

I noticed that. I was looking at the Jamis Beatnik (new for '09) but the locals are having a hard time getting them. Plus the standover is higher than the Kilo. And its $100+ more and I don't like the bull horn bars.

can i ask why youre interested in the kilo tt pro if youre not wanting to ride fixed?

why not just buy one of the BD bikes that comes with a freewheel ie. the dawes, or windsor

Why would the Kilo be a bad freewheeler? Am I missing something?

1. You need a pedal wrench, a 15mm wrench and some allen keys. (From what Ive seen from pics. They come "90% assembled")
2. Freewheel is not included.
3. 29" stand over height will be fine for you.

If you are going to freewheel, you need front and rear brakes.. The Kilo doesn't have cable guides for a rear brake...As others have said, there are plenty of BD offerings that make it easier to use front and rear brakes..

as for standover, it's the most overrated measurement if sizing...if you are an inch or so within your inseam, no worries.... if you are stopped at a red light, lean the bike over a little...no standover problem..
