Comparing a cycling cap to a lettuce leaf? Oh, classic. You're betraying your ignorance and stupidity with every word. Cycling caps are useful, some people where them as a fashion statement. Woop-dee-****ing-doo.

People wear basketball shoes off the court as a fashion statement. People wear baseball caps outside the diamond as a fashion statement. People wear dog tags even though they aren't in the armed forces as a fashion statement. Are basketball shoes no different than clown shoes because of this? Are baseball caps no different than hot dog hats because of this? Are dog tags no different than gold chains because of this?

If you saw someone playing basketball in basketball shoes, would you give them **** about it? How about someone playing baseball in a baseball hat? No? How about someone going through basic training with a set of dog tags?

And yet you'd give someone **** for cycling in a cycling hat. Amazing.

a. not being able to wrap your mind around the intricate complexities of niche fashion

b. poorly attempting humor by starting a thread about said intricate complexities, then spending two pages looking like a moron while defending the idea

I never tried a cycling cap.
I didn't even know that they fit under helmets (which I always wear).
I've always suffered from sweat running down into my eyes, and even sweatbands often fail.

Soaks up sweat, keeps the sun/heat off your head, light weight, keeps the hair out of your face if you have mid/long hair.

I don't even really like the way cycling hats look, but recently got one to wear under my helmet / deflect the rain a little when I'm doing long rides on the geared steed. Take that, fashion-mongering OP.

this reminds me of when my mom used to tell me that it was cool to eat my veggies.

From what I've gathered a lot of the "fixed gear" style has been filtered down from various entities. I would say a mixture of messengers and pro racers have influenced the scene. I think it's cool that this sport has become so popular and that the younger generation is coming up with ways to make it a true culture and not just another activity. That being said there is really is no rule on how to dress or what to ride. The rules have been tossed especially in the lower income areas where people just wear what they have and can't afford to keep up with the ever changing styles.

I wear a regular baseball cap sometimes. I do have to turn it backward when I start riding fast though. But by then I try to have my helmet on and the ball cap isn't on. :D

This thread got off to a shaky start, but I really like what Jake has done with the place. Baiting righteous debaters is a cakewalk, but stringing them along in a patently inane point-counterpoint is gold. My cycling hat's off to you.
