Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

what's wrong with road clipless? I mean they suck for walking around in, but other than that they are fine.

its not a fixie, its got a flip flop wheel so im running it so i can coast too. i just wanted lighter pedals and its slowly being put back to original glory of being a fine road bike.

I looked up the Bocyc site. They actually look like decent bikes. Nice frames. But their rear-brake only models don't make any sense.

yeah, thanks. it's obvious to everyone else that that's the point.

i think it's cool, and a new stem or just adjusting the bum bars down, would make them really awesome attractive nice bikes.

Bum bars are the new risers...

Who knew that I started a new trend back in the 70's with the upturned bars on my Schwinn 10 speed?

Looks really good; just enough color that it's not boring, but not gaudy, either. CUbuffsFTW: two brakes because he's obviously not a moron.

That's primarily my point. I don't commute to work much on my geared because walking around stores and such and ONLY having my clipless shoes while I rode wore through two sets of cleats already...

And while everyone else is on the subject of color schemes, I've got a matte black se draft w/ gold weinmanns (black hub, silver spokes); silver stem; silver stem spacers; silver headset; silver bars; gold crankset...would it be too much to swap to black mks sylvans (or GR-9s) with gold clips? And I'm planning on getting a gold Eighth Inch drop bars..

Not everyone likes skidding. A rear brake can let you gradually slow to a stop if you feel tired/don't feel like using your legs. From a practical standpoint, two brakes is always more versatile.

You can easily modulate speed with a front brake. Never really had to use a rear on road or SS bikes.

Sure, but it can with a rear brake as well.

I don't use one myself, and I rarely have a front brake on either. I'm just pointing out that it's an inane thing to dislike about someone's bike. It's much more appropriate to hate on less practicality rather than more (ie. my bike).

Both sides have a point here, on a fixed bike a rear brake is FOR THE MOST PART redundant, BUT a rear brake is easier to manipulate than the act of skidding an offers SOME additional control.

In general, the point is one of preference. If you want to skid, 1 brake. If you don't, 2.

May we agree to disagree? I hope so.

Liking the aesthetic here and the set up looks really decent too... would lose the painted chain and go for silver or even brown in a quality model... the white chain is distracting.

Looks like your bike is too small for you but if it is comfortable that is what is most important.

Running two brakes on an fg bike is a good idea... helps with long distance riding as your legs won't fatigue as quickly and on long descents you can take some load off the front brake and have better control when the road starts to get twisty.

My fg touring bike runs two brakes while my road fg just has a rear brake for show as it is fixed / fixed.

his bike does look a little small, but it also has a sloping top tube...
