Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

You're going to ruin your bike if you don't get foot retention. What do you do if you need to stop suddenly? Hop off? Here's to hoping you've only been going max, 5 mph so far.

Nice job on the decals though!

My priorities are always snazzy looking custom decals first, safety (and common sense) second.

Holy **** what's with these suicidal frikkin noobs. You wanna be cool and go brakeless, you get foot retention. Otherwise you look like a clueless tool.

My friend built up his Nagasawa brakeless with no retention. I made him get clips and straps. But he rides like he owns the road, charging intersections without looking, swerving though heavy traffic. He has crashed 3 times in as many months with the lastest one ending up having a car run over his back wheel and another car coming the other way nearly run over his head.

I hope he gets sensible soon.

That sounds like a lot of the fixed gear riders I see in SoCal. That's why the police are cracking down on brakeless bikes.

I ride with front brake (only use for emergencies; I backpedal to slow/down or skid) and with clips/straps and MAY even go SPD clipless, but not sure. Gotta get my track stands down. Don't feel like unclipping at every red light I come to. Anyway, I think I"m going to have to try and find my old "bmx" style helmet. Riding w/ the roadie helmet on the fixie looks weird, and yes I know, better than nothing....

Been awhile...

Subtle changes...

Nitto Pearl 8 to 38cm Nitto B123 w/ Fizik Wrap. Shorter than my 110(?) Cinelli stem.

New pedals.

Need to repack/true my Open Pro wheelset, which would then go on this frame.

Been wanting to "down grade" frames and ride a different bike as a beater.

lol i love when people say they have a front brake, but tack on that they only use it for emergencies. before it was brakeless that was cool, now it's apparently brakes that are never used that's cool.

Did the Klein once exist as a super nice roadbike or something? I don't know much about roadies.

Why is riding with a road helmet on a fixed gear weird? Guess what most people wear on the track? Road helmets. They're light and well-ventilated, and look the bomb. I rock a Giro Ionos at all times.

I dunno. I'm overanalyzing things I guess. I have a Bell Ukon. The ultra high prices of one use (albeit "ultra light weight") helmets are unappealing to me. And my somewhat small pocketbook.

On a side note, I was reading that NJS parts are not technically better made or of utmost quality, but to keep riders having unfair advantage over another. So why do people pay out the nose for NJS certified parts? Just "because"?
