Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Here's mine: it's my first halfway decent looking fixie. It's set up with a bolt on track cog and has a new saddle and seat post since I took that picture.

cc, with the exception of the gold cranks and brake, I really like your bike. Gold is just not my thing.

i did the gold when the bike was black. i might try to go all black or all silver with its new coat of paint. until i get a job though, it stays.

the more i see, ride, and photograph my bike the more i'm thinking black with small silver garnish... like, black spokes and rims but silver hubs. and black post and stem but silver bars wrapped in black tape. and black crankset but silver toe clips and chain.

Masi Speciale Fixed, 2008 model. Wheels and seatpost upgraded. Forks wrecked, so replaced and chromed.

Next: Sugino 75s and Phil BB (when it arrives). Then next purchase: New stem and bars.

For a frame, what do you guys think of converting this into a SS/FG ?

https://www.schwinnbike.com/usa/eng/P...10FAS-Fastback

obviously that's the adult version, but for your kids, perhaps this in a SS/FG ?

https://www.schwinnbike.com/usa/eng/P...-Midi-Fastback

The Peloton Pro looks like a similar frame only carbon ?

Horizontal dropout please. Those are all vertical from what I can see.

Get this for your kid.

Here's my first build--and my wife's first fixed gear.

It's ridable now, but there are two things that will be changed: the saddle (it's the stock saddle from my Kilo), and the pedals (my old MTB pedals from a 91 stumpy). It was a *relatively* easy build. I did have to do some hunting for a french bb (The Bike Club in Arlington has to be one of the greatest bike shops), but other than that it went together without a hitch.

Best I can figure it's a late 70s era frame (Reynolds 531). Would be great to be able to pinpoint the exact year.

Mickey was on the seatpost when I got the frame.

EDIT:
There are close ups of the frame over in C&V shot shortly after I picked up the frame off CL:

It was a good day.

OK, what if Schwinn made a frame with identical geometry and the horizontal dropouts were incorporated ?

Mine usually look like this.

I've been experimenting with a mustache bar for the last few days. I used to use an H-bar, so I set it up almost like that. I am much stronger in climbing up hills. Why not a bullhorn? Well, I wanted to look less Tarck. Lately, I am actually following the traffic rules a lot and I don't want to confuse other people. (I ran only two red light today! And, started feel natural waiting and chilling out during the red lights. Heehee.)
