Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Can just tell by looking at the steel langster that the geometry is different. The steel one has a much steeper headtube, which is generally easy to spot.

Another free bike thrown together from spare parts! Sure, its a slight death trap, but I LOVE it! The derailer and all the gear changing gear was all messed up so I took it all off, broke the chain, put it back together and made it a single speed (yes, all the 'geared bike' chain rings and such are still on it. Remember.."free") The bike originally had drops, a really nasty seat, and ugly gear change levers. Took all that off, put on a new seat post / seat, as well as some risers with an ugly brake lever and called it quits. Its a great bike to commute around campus on (gearing is I think 44/18). Classic Fuji.

Do i need it? Not really, but i like it! Although, my friend will use it most of the time. He has been wanting a bike to ride for a while now. This will be good for him.

I don't think it is a redesign, just a different model. There is the Langster, which is the aluminum one with the sloping top tube, and then there is the Langster Steel, which is, of course, steel, and has the "classic" look and all.

I was commuting with my Cinelli today:

This single track was a bit narrow though:

Why? Because it looked so sad, hanging on the wall all alone, and the track season is still three months away at best. And it has no problems with tire clearance

Hm, I don't think they are especially long. I'm 191 cm tall, and I measured 84,5 cm from top of the saddle to the middle of bottom bracket.

Saddle to handlebar drop is of course too big to drive comfortably from drops in winter garments (in the summer, the bar is two spacers/1 cm lower). Fortunately the Noodle bar's flat ramp section provides a good place for hands even without brake levers.

EDIT And here's my "real" winter bike, a '08 Specialized. Maybe I should have bought a 61 cm Tricross instead of 58, but at least it was dirt cheap. The handlebar BTW is a WTB mountain drop bar. Oh, and I know that the spacer stack looks ridiculous, no need to mention that

Is that tape on the Vigorelli's handlebars? Looks smooth like some sort of grip. . .

It's tape. You can see ridges on the right side of the frontal pic.

Be careful, I once did that and my chain jumped over to a bigger cog(it was pretty tight too, and the chain line was straight) when I hit a pretty big bump. The chain didn't break, but the axle in the rear wheel sure did. I had to call for a ride bike home.

If you look at the specs on specialized website the headtube angle is the same, along with seat tube angle, TT length, wheel base, BB drop, and all those other important measurements. Only thing they changed was seat tube length which only changes standover height. Maybe the parallel headtube is like and optical illusion and makes the headtube agnel look different when it actually isn't.

Don't get me wrong, I like the steel langster, a lot actually, but the fact that its identical to the aluminum langster I'm riding now doesn't really make it worth my while to upgrade.

this is true...kinda. Effective *should* be the same (because wheel base is the same) and the only reason its different is because of the longer seat tube.
