Dude, if it's just some toe clips and pedals, just take off the toe clips. 2 bolts and a strap and you're done. The standard pedal is more than adequate for your shoe size, unless you're saying you're 12" wide.
But I suggest getting used to the toe clips. It puts your foot in a good position for efficiency. I found that it took me longer to get used to toe clips than clipless. Both are far better than just flat pedals, IMO. Here is a wider clip, if you need it:

Also, if you can touch the ground with both feet while still on the saddle, your saddle is too low.

i just built a 55cm, i would be too small. i'm just shy of 6'2" and the standover is just perfect. i do wish the top tube was a bit longer so i could go with a stem shorter than 110mm.
so your frame may be just a hair big, but you'll get used to it. not such a big deal on a road bike.

For what it's worth, on my road bike my saddle is high enough I can't touch the ground while sitting on the saddle, and a few times I unclipped both shoes and was stuck on the saddle. SLick carbon road shoes kind suck that way...

I recently purchased MKS Sylvan Track pedals and MKS cages in silver, though black would have been better, but I did not see any in sight. It kind of looks obnoxious with my bike's color, but oh well. That doesn't say anything about my silver seat. >_>

really a couple weeks can make a big difference, now that i've ridden the thing a handfull of times i'm actually thinking it may be a cm or two small. i've read something about your legs should be fully extending when pedalling and i've still got a bit of a bend going. it's still a comfortable ride but i wouldn't mind trying the kilo in a 57 and see if i don't like it better.

Just get some double gate clips. MKS make a plastic set that are large and should cost about $5 (¥500 here in Tokyo). New pedals won't make any difference in getting out of the clips. Also, try to wear slim shoes.

Depends on how extended your seat post is currently. There's a minimum depth the seat post needs to be (number escapes me now), but most posts have a lot of room to adjust.

Ideally, you should have two pumps: A floor pump with a gauge, and a pump to take with you on rides. Everyone has their own opinion on pumps, and there are tons of threads on it, so do a search, grab a beer, and enjoy the hours of reading pleasure.
My personal favorite for a floor pump is the Topeak Joe Blow Sprint.

do the ones with gauges automatically detect what range it should be pumped at or is it different for different wheels? i'll definitely get one with a gauge as a guide as i have no idea how much is too much.
also how often should i be cleaning the bike? i hear you should remove and clean the chain every so often for example. considering i don't know how to take it off/put it back on i haven't done that yet in the time i've had it. bad?
