Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bikes: Vintage Ventura fixie conversion

Just wanted to say Hello!

Hey everyone. I just picked up my first fixie 2 days ago. A couple of my friends have them and told me they are way more fun than multi-speed road bikes, so I found this one on craigslist, and due to our poor planning, we took her home in one of the smallest cars we had to choose from (not to mention another bike the guy gave my friend for free )..well here are the pics

Here's the minicooper that we stuffed ourselves into (I was the lucky one in the back)

I took it out yesterday around town and it is a lot of fun, although I'm still learning how to slow down with my feet as well as skidding. It's a vintage Ventura (japanese?) frame that this guy converted into a fixie with practically brand new parts, since his son rode it only a couple of times. Well hello everyone and I look forward to learning more about these bikes!

EDIT: NEW PICS (new velo seat/monkey lite bars w/ oury grips/ armadillo rear tire)

Bikes: 1999 Kona Kapu; late 70's/early 80's Araya road bike/commuter bike.

Yeah, that's a nice bike, especially for a first.

Although you guys are making that mini look like a clown car!

Awesome.

yeah I really like your rig. Maybe you should loosen the bars and adjust them so they are straight, and probably get a new saddle. BUT, all of that stuff is an after thought. ENJOY AND RIDE YOUR BIKE.

Nice bike. Welcome to the BF. Check out the Classic and Vintage forum. They can tell you all about that bike.

I too recommend not hanging on to that stock saddle unless it really does suit you.

And also lower the bullhorns a bit.

Oh, on this forum, no pics of anything other than PBR. Pellegrino is for the Roadie racing forum.

Welcome, and nice bike.

That "welcome" gif that ADSR posts in these threads makes me LOL everytime. I'm pretty sure the only reason I read the welcome threads is in hopes of seeing that image.

yea right now I'm a little broke, but will be upgrading the seat and maybe taking the foam off the bullhorns and wrapping them in tape. I kind of like the paint job although there are some chips, I might keep it yellow for a while.

Cool bike, but 1) get fitted 2) ditch the fat saddle 3) fix the bars.

the bars are already fixed.. but i'm not familiar with the term "fitted" and I am working on the saddle when I get some more money in the bank. Working hard for it too
