Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Fixed gear in Korea

Can anyone tell me anything about the fixed gear scene in Korea? Anything at all. As in ANYTHING. I'm moving to Changwon City and on top of everything else like learning Korean and teaching English to middle school kids I'm going to try to do as much as I can with continuing my cycling photography there.

...but I have no freakin' clue where to start getting even vaguely acquainted with things over there.

Help?

Umm... I met a guy in Taipei who was from Seoul. He was riding with a group of locals and had a gorgeous bike. He said this was his last hurrah before going into mandatory military service. I didn't get the impression that there was a big fixed scene in Seoul, but there was a sizable language barrier.

Hey, you said anything...

Should help you out a little! The scene is still growing and good luck with teaching English in Korea! My brother just finished doing that for about a year.

I've heard that the mountain bike scene is more prevalent and growing like crazy, but road/track bikes are not. Still, I've heard of a few shops there with a good bit of track bike collection. Good luck over there. Haven't been back in 17 years.
