Ooh I like it. I want to know more. I'd really like to know what these bikes weigh in at (this and the Dawes SST-AL). I don't expect them to be featherweights but I do expect less than my geared bikes (which aren't top dollar race bikes either).
Before I bought my cross bike (a 2007 Norco CCX1 which I got for an absolute steal and love) I almost pulled the trigger on a Dawes SST-AL which looks to have good tire clearance as well and the same rims as this and seemed to be the best value since it had better wheels and good brakes though I would have dumped the top levers for proper hooded levers at additional cost (which was true of most options). Though the rack screws on the seatstays confused me since there where no eyelets on the dropouts (excuse me...track ends). I may be tempted to get one depending on the price. It's a tough call between this, the Fantom Cross Uno, and the Dawes SST-AL. A Fantom Cross Uno with proper brake levers and a better wheelset would be a clear winner thanks to the higher bottom bracket of a cross bike (pedal strike sucks). Though I got to be honest a 29er or 650B MTB is really calling to me some times as I begin to find the limits of my Hardrock. |

Great job Mike, the bike looks great and is versatile, thanks for listening to the forum.
|
How is the geometry going to differ from the kilo TT and also what price range is the bike going to be in?
|
I just know this will get shot down, but how'bout cable guides for an IGH like the S3X?
|
You could always buy some detachable ones or use zip ties. The majority of people interested in this bike are not going to be using any hardware in need of cables guides.
A big part of designing a frame like this is that it doesn't have that stuff. Otherwise people would just be converting geared setups. |
I have a general question about BD. Why use old bike company names? Why not come up with an in-house brand? Just curious. Nice bike though.

Looks nice, a nice practical bike when compared to the more track style kilo tt and pro. As stated before, looks like those looking for a steamroller will now have something to shop it against.
also, noticed that you dropped the "WTF" name. and so I dropped the F This bike will be easy to shop against the steamroller as the geo is basicly the same |

Price should be $449 - with brakes, hub/rim, crank, fork upgrades But I am trying to see if we can get it down to $429 or so of course, I want it as low as it can be |

Lots of 'older' names have changed hands as you may know, including Bianchi, Bottecchia, Schwinn, Masi, Raleigh, and the list goes on and on. many of us in the industry have emotional attachments to certain names. I certainly do. But I do have names like Mango and Gravity that are ones I came up with that sell very well. And we own dozens of 'model' names that could be converted to 'brand' names - some maybe. And some bikes - like new Mercier Stripper - will get no decals - basicly a Kilo TT with small spec changes, special paint, and no markings Plus we have built a real following for brands like Motobecane - latest Road Bike Action magazine had 5 new Motobecanes featured AND we have had lots of Moto reviews on our CF and Ti bikes by all magazines. Motobecane USA has a rather large following of customers and tons of interest in the Ti line. |

There are so many types of bikes and features - it is hard to hit them all Fantom Cross Uno is being changed to drop-bar levelers SST-AL is being changed to drop-bar levers and CF Fork Adding a Moto Track Team, this Kilo WT, a Kilo OS, Stripper, and Kilo S3X plus lots of options in 29er being added [latest the Fly 29er Ti Team is selling out on preorder] Plus bringing more frames and wheels for BikeIsland.com -- including a steel 29er frame And working on lots of other stuff But the be honest - we have seen no real level of demand for 650B -- 29ers sell like crazy, but 650B has not really seen much demand in the market For commuters and ultility riders we are seeing lots of demand in the cyclo-cross area [and a lot of interest in Sram groups - mainly Rival and Red] It is a very exciting time in cycling - there are so many options in different styles of bikes, types of components, and assorted designs. I am doing as many as I can, but noone can do them all. BUT I love hearing about what everyone is interested in. |

i'm not going to lie BD/Mike, you guys are killing it, especially with the options you give, the fact that you listen to the community and design around that shows that you actually give a rats ass about us. you=awesome for that. keep it up. any update on the FTP clone?
Thank you - after 30 years of really enjoying cycling - I still love it Track Pro with DuraAce, sample has taken too long, but should be in soon. Expensive bike, so I want sample BUT I will order it as soon as I see it. I really want to have a top level Track bike at a low price. |

Jeff at bikeisland.com might be able to mail a frameset to Australia, once he has them back in stock There are a bunch landing in June please e-mail at www.bikeisland.com and ask jeff if he can do it [you might need to send money as wire or check] BTW - you live in a fantastic part of the planet, very nice [except for the fires, of course] |

Hey Mike, since you seem to be paying attention to this thread...
You've got about a dozen questions in your visitor messages. Click on your username on the left of your posts and select "view public profile" to see them. Thanks! If you're short on time, feel free to just answer mine! |
solid look, is there gonna be a no decal option?
|
thanks for the photos, Mike. Looks like you can stuff some nice fat tires under there— now the choice is between Schwalbe slicks and some cross jams.
|
nothing beats fat tires for NYC streets...hey mike, can i buy that sample bike!?
