EAI Bareknuckle???
good frame for the money? i would be building it up with surly and wood components... compared to a Kilo or a pista? really, it's between a kilo or the EAI. if i'm spending the money, i want this to last for awhile and have something i'm going to be happy with in the longrun. any experience with these frames? any help would be great.
thanks

I have a Bareknuckle...its an excellent track frame, but way too stiff for road riding. I bought it several years ago when they were cheaper. Now they are overpriced. I don't understand why you are choosing between a Kilo or Bareknuckle...there are tons of frames in between those two. I recommend a Soma Rush..Its several hundred dollars cheaper but basically equivalent to a Bareknuckle frameset, but perhaps a tad less stiff and a better compromise for the track and road than a Bareknuckle.

i see why you are in question about choosing between the two, i have an opportunity to buy the BK frame relatively cheap, that was the reason... but my main concern is the road/track ride comparison between the two. Being that the bike will get virtually no track use around my area, it's kind of silly to get the EAI, but they are great frames and the price is almost stupid to pass up.

[i think you just posted the above when i was posting this. If you getting a great deal it might be worth it. They are nice frames, but I wouldn't pay more than $600 for them.

I've never ridden a kilo but I have a pista and a bareknuckle and the bareknuckle wins hands down. It is definitely steeper geometry than the pista but I like that (more effective for riding brakeless). Stiffness is good too. I have both bikes in the same gearing and the bareknuckle is definitely more responsive. It climbs hills more efficiently too (although, to be honest, I got better cranks on the bareknuckle than the pista). Don't pass up the bareknuckle if you can get it for $600 or less. You'll be sorry in the long run if you do. Lucky mihlbach probably got his back when they were $400.

I don't remember exactly how much I paid for my BK....but under $600, easily. I do really think its a nice frame. Like I said its stiff...its a frame you can really hammer on. I run a faily tall gear (49/16) and I love attacking rolling hills with it and as long as the roads are smooth and the hills aren't too steep, I tend to ride it faster than my road bikes. But it just doesn't handle road irregularites like a road frame and that can be an annoyance at times. Compared to my road bikes, the frame really bucks and bounces over bumps and waves in the pavement. Still, its a nice to have something that handles diffferently than my road bikes. Its a blast in traffic and I still find it plenty comfortable for long rides.
If you can get a reasonable price, I'd go for the BK.
