shorts malfunction... :(

hey, i usually ride my fixie in skinny jeans or skinny jean shorts, but ive rubbed through the crotch of two of my pants... does anyone know of any brands that sell jeans to ride on bikes? i.e. crotch-wear resistant :D

Saberhead 06-03-09 04:17 PM

^^I've gone through 3 pairs of jeans in a couple months. I decided to patch up leather on the crotch part. No more problems.

or you could buy the over priced Chrome 3/4 pants.

Do you have a perforated saddle? That was my problem. Now smooth saddle=jeans without holes.

Eggywootah 06-03-09 04:25 PM

If your pants aren't so tight, they will not wear as quickly.

Cynikal 06-03-09 04:27 PM

Yeah, cuz that make sense in the world of cycling. /sarcasm

mihlbach 06-03-09 04:43 PM

When will you people learn?

do you really wear a chamois when just biking around for fun or to class/grocery store?

mihlbach 06-03-09 04:48 PM

If its far enough to wear through my jeans, then, yes.

rymep 06-03-09 04:53 PM

If it's wearing through your jeans I'd hate to see what's happening to your ass.

For mid-range rides (over 5 miles under 30) I have a pair of climbing/yoga knickers and a few pairs of good shorts, it's just not worth trying to ride in tight pants, especially jeans. I just hit a point where I think "**** fashion" and go for comfort, plus it's not hard to throw a pair of pants in my bag to change into later.

jamse 06-03-09 04:58 PM

i only commute about 6miles to class a day (3 there, 3 back home), then maybe another 3 or 4 for misc. stuff like getting food or going to the grocery store. i ride that everyday, and it seems this last month ive torn through 2 pairs already, i usually only ride twice or three times the school during the spring cause of all the rain.

uptuck?

jamse 06-03-09 05:09 PM

why are climber pants so expensive!? :(

blankgen 06-03-09 05:09 PM

I tuck it up and to the left. Tucking it down would be a recipe for disaster imo

Well you don't stick it under where it rubs.

fuzz2050 06-03-09 06:26 PM

Not that this needs to be said, but DO NOT under any circumstances tuck down, it hurts like hell.

LoRoK 06-03-09 07:08 PM

I wonder how in the hell people ride in skinny jeans. I have a pair of jeans that fits, not super tight, not baggy, and if I wear them on my bike it feels like my nuts are banging against each other and it's like the worst thing ever.

jamse 06-03-09 08:18 PM

skinny jeans are like spandex, in that they keep everything in place :D

though i have noticed the faster i pedal, the more friction i feel between my leather saddle and my crotch :( hence the holes and crotchlessness :'(

nowitsshowtime 06-03-09 08:42 PM

i hear you on the skiny jean nut hurting complaint, i don't get how people do it either. Maybe I'll try the uptuck

blankgen 06-03-09 08:46 PM

Maybe my skinny jeans are especially tight or something but they are by far the worst thing that I have ever worn on the bike.

Yes.

Saberhead 06-04-09 03:28 AM

Whoah. Guys are...funny. All this weiner and tuck talk!

I suppose because Im lacking external genitals riding in tight jeans isnt an issue, but they still do wear/tear. Sewing an extra peice of shirt fabric or leather on the inside of the jeans does the trick for me. But I dont expect many guys to sit there and sew that. It's irritating.

jgrant75 06-04-09 03:49 AM

yeah, when are you going to learn to wear your lycra everywhere, jeesh
