Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

um, 3 bucks a cable and a dollar fifty per foot of cable housing, 5 feet total. that's 13.50. sales tax here is now almost 10 percent, that makes a grand total of 14.85. where the **** are you buying your stuff from, and how do they stay open for business?

the coop around here got shut down by the university. the other one i know of charged me shop time for going in there to buy a toe clip.

a good portion of that is also building a new rear wheel. I wasn't sure if he was going to replace the hub and run a bmx freewheel to do it proper. if you jury rig it with the 5 speed and run a tight chain on whatever lines up straight, that works too.

I was also basing this list of parts based off of what was in the picture. he didn't say before that he had many of the listed parts in a box somewhere else.

only at bfssfg will a $2k njs track bike be okay, but $15 for cable and housing be lunacy

Thanks everyone for the comments. Tonight I put on the freewheel I got off ebay for $10.95. After 4 hours of swearing at the old one, I decided to drive to my parents house to use a vice. It came off in about 7 seconds. Also I ground off the tabs I don't need and sanded some more to prepare for paint. I need to wait until my next paycheck, then I will be buying the paint, new tyres, a saddle, a chain, and brake pads. I can't wait! I'll post pictures when it is complete.
