Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.
I just might be a junkie....
So I went on a ride with Goatmeal this morning after shining up my bike with windex and paper towels (still waiting on the pics, they'll be up soon) and now I'm realizing how addicted I am.... Maybe it was trying to keep up with him, maybe it was seeing the sun on the chrome, but I just kept thinking how my bike needed to be better... (that yellow Miyata seemed to be doing everything so much easier than me
After we split our ways, I went and ate dinner (graveyard, donchyaknow?) then hit one LBS - ended up leaving $125 lighter but a Selle Italia SLR Carbon Fiber/ Leather/ Titanium rails/ 135g saddle lighter too...
Got home, called one of my bill collectors, but he was out for lunch. So I decided to head to another LBS to pass some time, end up getting a track certified real fat (3/16" wide) chain and a pair of :
GLOVES.
I've been riding with no tape for a long time - I don't know why I have gloves now. But they were really comfy on the ride home....
Last night I bought new socks (mainly because I was out of clean ones) that have thin mesh on top and are low cut to match my shoes...
There are actual cycling chorts (lycra! but my normal shorts will hide them...) in the mail on their way to me...
I've been thinking about getting a jersey, but haven't seen one I like in any of the shops around here...
I think it might need to stop before I start trying to figure out how to put a derailleur on my track bike.
I'd hate to turn into a roadie...
This is all after new real wheel, new tires, clipless pedals, shoes, new stem, one new crank....
Right now, I should be sleeping because I have to be to work in 7 hours, but I spend my time typing and thinking about it...
I'm a freakin junkie.

Congrats on joining the throng of similar addicts. Has yours reached the low of sitting in your chiar and staring at the bike from accross the room? If not, give it time....you will.

Heh, sorry I didn't know you posted until now. There could be worse things of which one could be a Junkie, I think cycling is pretty tame. Congrats on getting that new chain, must look nice on the old school Bianchi.
The only reason I was going faster was I had a easier gear ratio, swap that 16t for a 18t and you should be cruising. Not to mention the fact that you need to quit smoking, that might help..
Phil
P.S. The Miyata is Orange, everything else on it is yellow. Just bought the final yellow part, brake pads, now the bike is complete.

I'd rather a bike in my head than voices, voices weren't bad either, just wish they'd learn to speak ENGLISH!

Was staring at it a couple of minutes ago - upside down with new chain, not tensioned in yet...
She teases me when I sit at home doing nothing... I abuse her and ruin parts, but she almost always looks like I should get on her and ride...
Do need to quit smoking though - problem is I'm about 30-40 cancer sticks a day, and they are all DIY roll yer owns.... a little healthier, but still a lot of nicotine...
As anyone can guess from my avatar, I do have a bit of an addictive personality - trying to swap out bad habits with bike habits...
Anyways...

Hey, I smoked for 12 years and quit about 3 years ago. It only sucked for a little while, I use sunflower seeds to quit. Now I can't quit the seeds <spit> . Moral of the story, its worth it to quit. You will be amazed at how much faster you can ride.
Cheers

When I take breaks from the library I get a snack and just sit next to my bike while its locked to the rack. Something about the simplicity and the sense of speed it exudes. I feel like I'm watching it move when its just standing still. I get depressed at work on days that I take the train because I know my bike isn't here with me and I can't ride it home. I almost always end up skipping out early to go home to just be with my bike. Its not that I have to go for a ride, its just the feeling that I could if I wanted to.

I'm a junkie, but not a buy buy buy junkie, a buildbuildbuild junkie. I have some really nice bikes, but more are built maainly out of refuse, trash and sacvenges.
Good thing my girlfriend doesnt mind waking up in a sea of bikes and bike parts. I can see how to many that couyld be a terrifying concept.

She's sitting over by the window here at work looking like she wants to go back out on the trails.
She's been getting pushy the last couple of days - made me take her out for an hour and a half last night after work, and made the commute in to work today a half hour longer.
Her new fatty track chain is clicking now, and reminds me every time I ride that I need to get her a new set of crank arms and front chainring. The leftover parts of the chain got turned into a bracelet/armband thingy. I had to take a file to my chaintool in order to be able to put it on the bike without using a master link, so I was able to use it on the bracelet thingy...
Anyways, I should pretend to work now

yeah, that bike was mine. Wish I had somewhere better to put it, but I didn't have time to get to the rack under the library. Is there something about this city that prevents them from putting racks in places protected from the rain? I'm tired of sitting in class dreading the sound of thunder.

When you look at you mileaage log..Your goal is approx. 150 miles a week..You have a hissy fit, feel cheated by only doing 110...Act pizzy to all. You decide to miss a days sleep so you can get in your mileage quota..You are addicted.
