i got hit by a car

on the busiest intersection in vancouver, washington at 9:30 pm or something.
he didn't have his signal on and he turned left and i was going straight.
He hit me on the side. i hit the top of his car. and i got back on my feet.
i was so freaked out. i started banging on his car and yelling at him.
he was freaked out too and was like "do you want me to back up into the lot"
"YEAH WHAT DO YOU THINK"
i picked up my bike and walked into the lot
too much adrenaline in me.
he was about to cry. he seemed about 28 years old. i made him call the police and everything.
we got all the information. he's goign to pay for the damage.
my legs hurt in the shin area.

it's a pake frame.
the fork is bent. the grip tape is screwed up.
the front wheel is bent. front brake screwed up.
we're goign to the bike shop tomorrow.

ughhh what do i doooooooooooo
did i do it right?

Get the insurance money! Same exact thing happened to my friend that rides a motobecane jury and he gave the guys insurane company the reciept for his brothers TK3 and cashed in $1150, whle only putting $100 into fixing his bike. Hopefully you're okay though. Good luck!

Edit: btw NEVER think you have a driver figured out; always be on the defense

Damn man, I got hit by a car today too. :< I was on the sidewalk carrying a 20lb bag of rice in one hand and looked back to go on the road and the next thing I knew i was bailing over a car. Guy popped out of an alley. Luckily my bike is fine minus a bent clip and the bag of rice didn't break.. my shin isn't diggin the situation though.

Sounds like you handled it ok except maybe flipping on him but I can see how you could be freaked out. Enjoy your new bike and at least your not dead or broken.

Just be HONEST and THOROUGH

Make sure you lose NOTHING from the situation, but don't be spiteful. Remember that this was an accident, and he did the right thing. He could have been a **** off and fled the scene (which has happened to me in a much more severe accident) but he didn't.

Moral of the story, if the cars don't kill you, the dads will.

Don't be skurred to get back on the bike (once you can). I had a tremendous string of bad luck once, got hit 7 times in two years (ah, sweet home Chicago). I was never seriously hurt, but a couple of them really, really shook me up. After that I started riding much more timidly which definitely played part in my later accidents. So learn from this accident, but don't let it make you a worse rider. Just remember to think that you are invisible out there, because you basically are.

Yeah...a few months ago I was clipped from behind hard enough to topple me over my bars and straight into the ground before I could even take my hands off the bars

I lost 3 days of memory and I have nerve damage in my left brow (may or may not come back eventually) as well as some sweet scarring from the stitches.

The guy took off and was not found.

Sucks big time dude. I hope you're ok. Definitely go through insurance and see a doctor. I hope you were wearing a helmet.

I'll show you the secret handshake later

Yep for real. That's messed up, not being straight up honest. Goes around, comes around.

does everyone think i'm a guy on this forum? haha.

well, i'm not afraid to get back on the bike once things are fixed.
was my light not bright enough? it probably wasn't. i should invest in a new one or something.
riding in vancouver is pretty scary, even though it's right across from portland. it's a whole other world.
my legs are bruising right now, my lower back is hurting, my legs were tingling a little bit last night, i have a headache and my neck hurts a little bit. blah blah. complaining.
would it be worthless to take pictures of me and my bike. the damage of the bike probably wont show in pictures.
yeah, i'm glad the guy stopped and drove me home other wise i wouldn't have known what to do. i think if it was on a smaller street he probably wouldn't have stopped.
what is the secret handshake, TheDL?

Ya it was my fault but if I had rode on the road I would be swimming upstream so to speak.

Take pictures of everything. Write down everything you remember. Get a copy of the police report. You can use it all when you make your demand to the insurance company.
