I like riding in the rain, but mud stains down the back of my shirt are impossible to get out. I need to get a fender.

On my FG I've got a rear fender which keeps things semi dry, and a waterproof backpack with a dry change of clothes and shoes in it. A waterproof jacket is also a god send if you're going to be riding in inclement weather at all.

I'm a puss with my FG in the rain not because I don't like riding in the rain, but because I don't like getting the bike wet. For now I ride my MTB but I'm also working on a beater FG.

I was basically just making fun of Massachusetts drivers with tongue-in-cheek. I didn't mean to cause a sh*tstorm.

It's all good. I'd just rather ride my bike when it's nice out, that's all. My commute to work is only four miles, so when it's raining (or in the winter), I take the car. I have a nice car that's good on gas, that I enjoy driving. On the same token, I ride my bike because I enjoy riding my bike. Riding in the rain, to me, is less enjoyable.

I've also been a skateboarder all my life, riding mostly vert (halfpipes and bowls). Can't do that in the rain either. Or maybe I just don't have balls...

Kinda odd.... I thought one of the main draws to a fixed gear bike was that it's easier to maintain than a geared bike in crappy weather.

My pretty bike is geared, my fun/ride anywhere/beater is my fixed bike.

I can take the cold.. Well, to freezing at least. Can't take the heat, above 90 degrees.. Rain. Don't like it. As a commuter , I've been stuck in the rain.. Seems one's wet feet is the most miserable. Don't like it but I'll do it. Warm rains are not so bad. Maybe what I dislike the most. A sense that braking and traction have been jeopardized.

any thing short of the apocalypse and warmer than ice on the road and I tend to be ok. If i have my contacts in rain isnt an issue, I have an issue with my glasses and rain, but I did it for a long time.

good thing about rain give it long enough you get used to it. I have a waterproof hoodie, keeps water out of my underwear, makes life nice.

If I was a fairweather, I'd only get to ride for 3 months out of the year.

Fenders and mudflaps on all my bikes.

I am definately a fairweather rider. 105F heat and 95% humidity makes anyone a fairweather rider.

When I ride in the rain the water seems to stick to my glasses and I can't see anything Which, I might add, is completely depressing since I love riding in the rain.

Fenders, lights, wool and a softshell make it easy. I ride, rain or shine.

A cycling cap with a large brim can help with keeping your glasses from becoming useless in a downpour.

As soon as my balls get big enough, I'll start riding only in the rain. Naked, so everyone can see my huge balls. "There goes that dude with the massive balls", everyone will say as I haul ass through my town in the worst of weather on my trusty bike (sans fenders, of course). At least until they get so big that I'll have to carry them in a tarcked-out wheelbarrow.

All the b*tchiness aside here, anybody have a good and cheap solution for rain footwear? I have a jacket and pants that get the job done, but I either have to suffer through an 8-hr day of wet feet, or bring a second pair of shoes. This then creates the issues of A) where to store wet shoes for the sunny ride home or B) put wet shoes on for the rainy ride home.

I use this fender, keeps my backside and saddle dry and goes on and comes off easily.
Some days it's hard riding in the rain but I enjoy the elements, I rode all winter too which can be really challenging.

No, it is never necessary to explain your life philosophy in order to answer a question. By the way, I have found that people who truly live by some sort of ethical philsophy don't feel the need to discuss it.

I don't consider myself to be negative all the time. Not at all. Just honest.

No I commute year-round in the upper midwest.

I do tend to go on a lot less leisure rides though when it is <30 F

i commute in rain, snow, whatever, of necessity.
if it's really pouring, there's no staying dry.
but skidding in rain/snow (at my ratio) is easy, fun and, especially when the front rim is soaked up, helpful.
last winter i hit the front brake hard and felt the front wheel slip--scary.
i don't mind riding in snow but, later, when there're piles of snow everywhere, the snow melts, and there's salt and crap on the ground, cleaning the bike is pain.

Sometimes I wear my big yellow cycling poncho if it's raining hard enough.
It's goofy looking for sure, but it works.
