hi im new to the forum and pretty new to riding a bike, ive had my torker u-district for about 4 months now and so far ive been hit by a car twice! the cranks the bike came with orginally broke when i tried riding to the beach and since i replaced them with some sugino i havent had a problem with that, now i have a new problem! my spokes on the wheel keep breaking ive already replaced two. right after they replaced them last sunday another one broke on monday! Please i need some advice or what the hell should i do??!!

You need to replace all your spokes now.

Tighten all your spokes until your wrist hurts, then film your self riding the bike, and post it on you tube. (Which hopefully the whole wheel will explode.)

But- If this isn't a troll situation. You probally have to much spoke tension.

well I'll just guess from what my LBS charges.

$1 per spoke

$40 for mechanic's labor

I don't think you need to replace all your spokes. That was a joke I think. You just need to retension your wheel. The bike shop that trued your wheel did it too tight.

well if it thats the case gonna have to save up money. for it. Also i read that riding too hard can be the problem? I like riding pretty fast..

ANYWAY... yes, your wheel was probably tensioned too high. try a different local bike shop.

check your axles, they're probably bent. That has nothing to do with spokes breaking, but more to do with the whole getting hit by a car thing. Speaking from experience.

He should replace them all because it is likely the original broken spokes are from a poorly built and under-tensioned wheel and the same load-unloading cycles that caused the spokes to break have been applied to all the spokes of the wheel and fatigued all the others. They're broken spokes waiting to break.

If the axles and/or poorly built wheels are to blame, might the OP might just want to shop for a new wheel set?

This is off topic but in regards to a previous poster, I think I paid $.35 per spoke for my wheelsmith double butted steel spokes.

You'd be better off buying a used wheel or wheelset off CL or ebay. I saw some new Weinmann DP18s, all black, go for $113 on ebay the other day. I got my mavic cxp-22's on formulas and DT's with tires, EAI lockring and 17t cog for $75.

If the wheels not hopping then the axle is probably fine. Are you riding brakeless on this thing? Why do you keep getting hit by cars?

my axles were not bent enough to be noticeable at first glance, but I spun the wheel a week ago, about 3 months after the crash, and it spun a half turn and stopped. I took it off and checked the hubs. They were scraping pretty bad. I didn't even notice it until then, because it wasn't that bad. I probably ruined the bearings by riding it on a slightly bent axle.

having said that, like you said, he may as well get a new wheel set if he has so many problems with these wheels.

no im not riding brakeless...well technically the first time i got hit i kinda was because i have cheap tektro brakes and that day i was riding in a parking lot structure and i picked up some food so my hands were a little full. anyway Im riding say west and well this guy in a car was coming from the south so he wasnt even going fast and neither was I in fact he couldve braked but where he failed, i tried to brake but when i squeezed the brake i squeezed it to hard leading me to roll on his hood. Anyway im going to take my bike to the shop this thursday and hopefully fix the problem
