Never rode one but I used to go to the races at Cal State Dominguez. Don't know if it's fun but you'd better stay focused.

Huge fun. Being able to stand up and sprint on your fixed gear and get it going as fast as you possibly can in a safe controlled environment. I use 48/16 for training (81in), 85-90in would be more suitable for racing.

It's more fun than you've ever imagined. And it's harder than you'd be lead to believe. And it's addicting. 88-92 is a bit steep, even the really stupid fast guys only do a 94-96. First time out, look closer to 80-86.

Lots of fun. The first time you ride you may well **** yourself getting used to the banks, but once you get used to it the feeling is incredible. That said, I have frankly been less than thrilled with the culture at the two velodromes I've spent any time at.

Check out the track and see what it's like. Maybe I just had bad luck - I know people who I get along with well who love it. I just got sick of ****ty looks from people for riding a steel track bike with plenty of dirt and missing paint and not a carbon Teschner or Cervelo P3T with a $5,000 wheelset. YMMV, of course, and I certainly hope that it does. The track should be great, really. I'll give it another go some time, but for the time being I'm content to stick to the streets.

How can you assume what people are thinking when they look at you and your bike. Maybe they are thinking wow look at this dude he's coming on and killing it on steel track bike with plenty of dirt.....
There is no bull**** on the velodrome. You either have speed or are working towards it or you don't. This young guy I work with won the B class on his home made bamboo bike on our local track. If anyone was saying stuff about him and and his bike I think he shut them up. The clock tells no lies.

never tried it, but i would assume getting blown on a bike would be quite fun.
the velodrome on the other hand, is awesome. i've never raced but just riding around it is great. i wish i ran a 95 gear when i was on it.

My point was to let your performance on the track do the talking for you. Ride your arse off on the track because your doing it only for yourself. Everywhere you go there are arseholes, there are plenty of them at BF, doesn't stop you from coming here. I certainly would not allow people to stop me from having my fun at the velodrome.

When they snub you, refuse to talk to you, and won't cooperate with you on the magazine story your trying to do to try to get more and better exposure for the track to help it stay afloat, etc, it's pretty clear what they're thinking. And when they look at your bike and ask, "where the hell did you find that?" it's pretty clear too.
