the prompted me to search youtube for some FG videos. which prompts the question, are any of the fixed gear videos on youtube actually fixed gears? every freaking vid is a freewheeling single speed.

I want to know who goes through them that quickly, that's a pretty terrible way to ride if you need to change them that often.

if you are skidding to stop you shouldn't be riding without brakes. ( that is assuming you are brakeless.)
now skidding balls to the stem is what im talking about. i dont know the technical term for things, but if you watch mash, or macaframa, you can see that they dont skid to stop. they can basically stop their rear wheel from moving just sitting. learn how to do that.

Unweight your back wheel just a bit and lock up your pedals at the same time, pull up on the front pedal while pushing down on the back. Try this going slow on some loose sand or grass just to get the feel of it then gradually increase your speed.
It helps to lean over the bars too.

Coolness? For me, skid coolness comes from doing a semi-donut with it. I can only do a quarter donut though.
