Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I should add that on the conversion I was running MKS road pedals, and on the current bike I'm running All-City track pedals.

I have 165mm on the right and 170mm on the left, one black one silver, because my left Origin8 crank threads got stripped by my pedal somehow. :/

I ride an old Italian Road frame (steel with adjustable dropouts) as a fixed gear, with 175mm crank, bb height only 270mm, and shimano SPD-L pedals, and do not worry about striking pedals on the road, but I also do not race with this bike.
If you do race, you end up striking a left or right pedal at some point in corners, and that can be ridden out as long as you dont freak, and the rear wheel will come right back down to traction again. The sleek design pedals are so rounded off that the shape helps this.
otherwise, dont worry and just ride, and think of Yoda if a pedal strikes while going gonzo thru a turn
