i'm trying to impress girls by going faster than my friend so yeah going fast is a must.
i guess my main concern is if it's lame. will hipsters make fun of me?

Girls don't get impressed by bikes. a good pair of Gel riding gloves and bullhorns will probably be better. I do about 30 a day with my bullhorns with no issues, aside from minor fatigue issues i'm not sure aero's would be worth it?

would bullhorns be a better purchase? i have a $100 gift card to this really lame bike shop called "performance" so i'm not worried about the cost as most aero set ups are less than that. plus with the aero bars, i'll have something to lean my arms down on.

This makes no sense at all to me. How are they the same as drops? you stretch out on bullhorns, and down on drops, totally different position and muscle group for the upper body i believe.

He was saying the hoods on drops are similar to bullhorns, but bullhorns lack the actual drops.

It's probably pointless to get them. Aero bars work on a TT bike because they have a much steeper seat tube angle to accomodate the more forward lean. On a regular fitted road bike or track bike you'll be leaning so far forward that your hip angle won't be open enough to get any reasonable power from your legs. If you're going to do aero bars you'd want to move your seat way forward or even get a set forward seat post, which would make your drops a lot less functional.
Basically, unless you plan on resetting your whole bike fit and are going to ride exclusively on the aero bars, it won't work very well at all

get the road drops up to a ride-able position if you haven't already. On the open road its easy to spend an entire ride in them
