Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Atlantic & what? In Brooklyn by Flatbush? The Blvd makes Atlantic Ave look like a walk in the park. Atlantic is usually jammed up with traffic. Easy ride.

Queens Boulevard is called the Boulevard of Death because of the number of people killed on it, mostly people in cars. Atlantic Ave isn't as consistently terrible to ride on and the worst parts of it are usually too jammed with cars to make them as bad as Queens Boulevard. You are more likely to get hit and knocked down, not smashed into and thrown 20 feet.

Not that there is really any reason to ride on either street for very long, especially when you can more easily navigate the sides streets and get to your location quicker.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this, but by almost any standard you were going painfully slow. Get a brake maybe? Don't follow the garbage truck?

He looked like he was about to get crushed by that garbage truck. Woulda made a lot more sense to go left around the car than try and squeeze between it and a garbage truck that was merging into the same lane.

he is riding slow, but it appears he has a brake. Actually, it appears as though that's not even a FG/SS bike, it's a road bike

He has a brake... it was on his Bianchi road bike w/ Campy.

Columbia kids are so much cooler than everyone else. How cool? I saw this video being played in KK.
