I'm on an extended vacation in Germany, and I'm in Munich for the next couple of months, wondering if there is anybody in Munich or nearby that rides fixed gear. I know of only one other messenger around here who does. I hear Berlin has a good scene, they even have their own track specific shop, Keirin Berlin.

on a fixed gear. not even many people on road bikes but mostly mountain bikes.

I am in Munich and I have never seen anyone riding fixed but I havent really looked specifically. There surely must be á few. One of my projects in the planning stage is to turn one of my bikes into a fixed single speed but I have not done anything on it yet. I need to do some more research on sourcing a flip-flop hub and single chainwheel.

I just recently cracked my track frame, and have been looking for a replacement, but they're hard to come by. No shops carry any track equipment here, as opposed to san diego, where I know of at least 3 shops within a couple of miles that carry framesets, complete bikes, and even entire groupsets. I guess I was really spoiled there.

Yes I don't think you will find such a high concentration of fixie shops here in Munich. I have been in a few LBS's round Munich and not seen any fixie specific stuff. Have you tried doing a search on Google. I am not sure what the German is for fixie. You might have to resort to ordering on the internet. Cycling is quite popular in Munich but there doesnt seem to be a big interest in Fixies here. I am only really aware of them through this forum and that has given me the idea to give it a try. I have an old city bike (about 6 years old). Its steel and a bit heavy (built like a tank) but the drop-outs are sort of horizontal so I might give it a try just to get a taste for riding fixed and find out what the interest is.

The German word is Bahnrad, and I guess there used to be at least one shop here, Sigi Renz, that carried track equipment back when the olympic velodrome was still around at the Olympic Stadium, but that was torn down several years ago. Maybe during the 6 days race in november some parts will be available. I can hope, right?
