no headbadge. no anything. just like the bike island framesets.

jeez, I know it's NYE and all, but i figured Mike would've chimed in by now.

those niche vendors cannot match and will be destroyed by the price that bikesdirect can do.

+1 BD is like the walmart of bike stores though without a physical store.

Not really on the fense
Just looking for the right lugs and a good quote

Two big issues are:

1 - not too many lugs available these days
2 - frame builders prefer to not build lugged frames as they eat up time and are a pain to do; plus all the good brazers have gotten old and retired leaving mainly welders

anyway, I am trying to get a good product at a fair price with a good selection of sizes

Should be fun; but take a bit of time

thanks for the input

Group Buy.

nicer dropouts would also be an awesome addition. the ones with the integrated tensioners in the Jamis Sputnik and Genesis Flyer bikes. (i have a feeling those bikes are made in the same Taiwanese factory)

while youre coming up with new bike ideas how about something like this and a little bit of a pursuit style sloping top tube? http://airwalkfixed.blogspot.com/200...store-now.html
make black omniums readily available?
but if you made a super sweet kilo how about 27.2 and something like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/2548470...7604596104538/

lol those are the things i would be looking for right now.

that was my thought. And still you end up with mystery tubes. While BD clearly serves a purpose, their primary market is the cost sensitive buyer.

You guys are basically asking for an Alien, andof that frame already exists. Why not buy one of those and pretend it's a kilo rather than have mike go through the trouble of copying it?

I got excited when I saw the Kilo deluxe, but will restrain for a lugged frame.

i want lugs!!

bbattle 01-04-10 12:31 PM

How much are you guys willing to pay for a lugged steel track frame? Lets do some market research for Mike and Tim and any others that might be thinking of a new lugged frame. Aliens start unpainted at $399, white or black for $449, other colors at $498. That's pretty cheap. http://alienbikes.com/

Do you want higher grade tubing? Fancier lugs? More paint options? Nicer bottom bracket? Better dropouts? Chrome? 1" threaded fork or 1 1/8" threadless? Straight fork like the Colnago Precisa or traditional curved?

Im not sure how I feel about those airwalk bikes but if you made some sort of special kilo or bd bike with more aggressive track geometry like a nice sloping downtube, think affinity or geekhouse, I would immediately be sold.

previous discussions in other threads sound like $300 for lugs with whatever colors BD decides upon for that season. Another 20 if you want the chrome treatment they're doing now. Once it gets into chromed lugs, then it gets a bit more expensive, but $300 - $320 for a lugged frame with w/ or w/o color/chrome treatment sounds way better than what Alien can do. Plus, from the sounds of it, it takes forever and a day to get a bike from Alien, especially if you want a color other than black or white.
