None of them touch They Might Be Giants, but yeah - I was a huge Slayer fan in Highschool. Haven't listened to them since they put out that live double album in '94(?) South of Heaven, Rein in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss were amazing. Was also into some Sepultura and Dead Horse back then. Anyone hear of Dead Horse? I ran a BBS called Peaceful Death from 93-00. Any idea what any of this has to do with bikes?

I had Lionel Ritchie stuck in my head on the way in this morning. Don't ask.
I like Opeth. Saw them live. Awesome live show.
Rollins wins the bar fight in my book as well.

MINOR THREAT rips too! That is their music - not so much the lyrics.
One of my favorite bands to skate to.
Best suggestion since John Zorn is TURBONEGRO!!! They might be just as tough as Slayer.
What this all has to do with bicycling?
In tough traffic situations ask yourself "What would Slayer do?"
It will help!

I'll find it. Thanks for reminding me of J.Lizard. Haven't listened to them for around 10 years. I like.

Hey, for fun, find Tragic Mulatto-Whole lotta love. Off the album ' Hot Man P*$$Y.'
Stunning. Not totally into the tuba solo, but the 300 lbs lesbian opera singer makes Plant sound like a poofter. And when shes sings about what shes gonna do with her.....it's scary!

john zorn is more brilliant than tough, but painkiller and naked city is his tough side i suppose. i do have a zorn album that involves him playing a duckcall in a bowl of water. i LOVE john zorn, but that album is tough to listen to.

They would come thru DC a couple times a year in the early 90's. Something tells me they woulda been pretty awesome to see live in Chicago.
anyway..... just passing thru. can you tell me where it hurts the most?

Gwar are tougher than slayer.
i've only heard one of their songs [i think it was Meat Sandwich] and seen the video for it.
they're probably really nice people in real life. helping grannies accross the street etc.

The heaviest thing I own that I can still actually listen to is Strapping Young Lad, but yes, I still like a bit of Slayer. A lot of that John Zorn and Mike Patton 'instrumental' stuff is basically unlistenable. Tough, sure, but in a different sense. Did anyone buy the latest Fantomas record? That's a bit disapointing. Like Carcass trying to be pseudo intellectual whilst sipping a Sherry.

eh, i beg to differ. i like GWAR, the folks involved are all cool (from what i've heard), but they're about as tough as Spinal Tap. way more entertaing, tho. just don't wear anything to one of their shows that you can't bear to throw away when you get home.
now, Atreyu, on the other hand, are tough as *****.

in the summer of 1994, the dave gohan diet went something like this. after regaining consciousness at some in the afternoon in a hotel room in america, he would start the day with two glasses of vodka. his throat so ravaged he couldn't speak, he would call jerry, his minder, and communicate by tapping on the phone in code. then he would get into his limo to the airport, stopping en route to to grab a mcdonalds, his sole meal of the day. on the plane it was time for a couple of valium and a blackout.
when he arrived at the venue, the tour doctors gave him steroid for his throat and painkillers for everything else.
...
afterward though, he would retreat to his hotel room, never once talking to his bandmates, and spendd the rest of the night injecting heroine alone
by the end of depeche mode's 14month 158date songs of faith and devotion tour, dave gahan weighed just 100pounds...
...
unbelievably the next two years were worse still, a gruesome object lesson in why heroine is a bad thing.

Me, I'll like my brutality without the obligatory D&D imagery (black cauldrons boiling over with the blood of the non-believers, mass graves of decapitated unicorns, necrophagism, etc.) That's why gentlemen prefer Unsane.
