Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I prefer the Benelli M1014, myself. Sure it doesent have the same ROF, but the collapsible stock makes it easier to draw while doing skids with one leg over the handlebar.

OP: I can understand what you're feeling, but I can't help but feel that I probably would have done nearly the same thing. I put more miles on my bikes than my car, and one of my bikes is my dad's old race bike. With so much meaning tied into them, I'd be willing to take a few licks to keep possession of them.
Younger, You live where.?. Up north.. You mean like an expat in Eureka, Calif..?... After all Northern Californian's think So Cal to be foreign...!..............Here in the French countryside, ( the part of the year we are here.) Crime is minimal.. But, still club members look at me like I am nutz when I display my old habits of locking up my bike when ever it is more than 40 feet away.. Really I guess . On association rides there might be so many bikes parked about, why would they pick on mine, when there are so many Cervelos about..
