Skidding styles?

Ok, So there is always the normal way, Balls to stem,

Then the leg over the bars.

Then the foot on tire style

Is there any other styles out there?

Fish tail by basically whipping out to the side.
Seated.
Backpedaling, like actually locking then turning the cranks the opposite direction.
Leg through frame (you know what I'm talking about..)
Skip skid, not exactly skidding, but done by completely unweighing the rear wheel off the ground, lock the legs, then pushing it back on the ground. (I think most people actually kind of bunny hop a bit to initiate this)

Also, I think there's two foot-to-tire styles (which seems to be more common lately, check out Massan)
One is too create friction between the shoe and the tire, and the other is a toe jam to actually lock the rear wheel.

Some of the fixies around my town fishtail while peddling... im very confused on how they do this. I know they do this while pedling cause they are freewheel. Also, is there a name for skidding back pedling then pushing forward so it slids out real wide? i do it all the time for some awesome angles.

jeez, 1:09, when he skitches with his feet off the pedals, and then the whole end sequence where he's Ted Shredding down the hill. I got nervous just watching him.

Haha, yea.
Massan is def my favorite fixed rider though. Much more so than the FG free-stylers, no offense.
He's just so fast and strong. All his riding and skidding is so natural but so intense at the same time! He is the definition of mashing.

I'm sure he would consider a career in cycling if he is "so fast and strong."

Wow, how close-minded is that comment.
Just because you're good at something, doesn't make you obligated to pursue a career for that. Some people prefer to separate things they do for fun and things they need to work for. In many cases, those who have mixed the two find they enjoy what they do less and less.

And have you heard of MASH's Tour of CA?
Probably not, seeing your ignorance.

I'm not saying he's a world class cyclist. Just because he's fast and strong doesn't automatically make him Lance Armstrong, but I bet that he will kick your ass and 90% of most riders on the street without breaking a sweat.

I can't imagine riding at (what seems to be) high speed while brakeless. =/ I had trouble even using the drops when I had a cross lever for my brake. Only bad things started to cross my mind

You could find out at the track

Last season I hit a max 39.9MPH. This season I'm gonna get over 40!

...I'm gonna need a montage.

I'm job searching right now. The first thing I'm going to do with pay is get some good pedals and try out track. I had that thread a while ago in the Track Cycling subforum, but I'm racing road for now. I've gone just over 30 on the flats with my fixie, but I'm limited by my low gear. spinnnnnnnnn

I can put a much higher gear, but I'm lazy

Not lazy. You are smart. It's nuts to ride that fast on a FG in the street. Not worth the risk. No different that dudes that race motorcycles through the city and on the highway.

Sometimes I wonder if I rode like the guys in MASH...I'd be dead in about two days.

I have a feeling video makes it look much faster than it is on the street. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of these guys ran a lower gear for the sake of control, and to skid easier. also makes it easier to look like your throwing down the hammer.

Some of the guys in MASH and even some of the guys in Macaframa are keeping up with what seems like pretty fast traffic. But I don't really know how people in those areas drive so I dunno.

keeping up with traffic isn't too hard. i spend a lot of time cycling in traffic where the max speed is 60kph, i can keep up for a bit and sometimes pass cars. 50kph is a good speed for traffic and cyclists.

Meh, my part of town is built on a hill so I run a pretty low gear to get around, 69GI. I generally hover around 40kph when riding in traffic, which is already spinning 120rpm. I've been thinking about upping my GI a bit but I've been putting it off because flying up hills is so much fun.

I've been working on my "Skip Skids" or the bunny hop skid. It seems to slow me down faster when needed.

I would like to learn how to do a skid while seated. Very difficult though haha
