Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It is his career. He probably gets all the gear, energy bars and whatnot to last him a few lifetimes from all the sponsors he has.

Oh yeah, that's another thing. With 69GI I can skid seated all day. But I rarely skid so whatever.

I have a little problem. When i try to skid [not balls to stem, not really interested in doing that] my foot is pulled and forced to point down and if i keep pulling up my foot will slide out. I think if i had bigger/deeper clips it would help, but I already have a large. I am a size 10 shoe... anyone have this problem?

Skid when both cranks are parallel to the ground, pushing down and forward, but concentrate on the down pushing.

edit: Parallel with the ground might make more sense.

There's also the backflip to skid. Pretty intense, but easy if you're a BAMF!!! :O

Have you checked the bottom length of your toe clip? (toe-tip to pedal length)

SS 41mm, S 46mm, M 51mm, L 62mm, LL 72mm. (MKS)

MKS table also tells me you with US shoe size 10 need LL. I am between M and L; shoe size 8.5. ... Kinda unreliable, because sizing varies with companies. Try checking sizing with cheap plastic clips.

To the thing about these guys in MASH etc running smaller gear ratios...Massan rocks a 52t chainring.

^^^ that's what I was about to say. if he's got a 20 or 21 tooth cog in the back, he can roll with a 52t front no problem.

He's just so fast and strong. All his riding and skidding is so natural but so intense at the same time! He is the definition of mashing.
is he sponsored by Leader?

Most of the guys in mash/macaframa have careers outside of bike riding. Anyhoo....

Does that mean your front foot is past 3/9 o'clock? If so, practice locking your feet a bit earlier. Also, are your straps loose? Some people say you shouldn't be able to yank your feet out (full pedal efficiency) but I usually tighten mine down to where they only come out if I yank them out fairly hard and at the right angle.

Bikes: scott CR1 rase rig, special__ed langster commuter masheen

some of the mash guys are riding... hold on to your neon deep v's... road bikes, I've ran into a few, that I know of, because they were in- wait for it.... wait for it.... SPANDEX mash kits while out riding in the areas surrounding SF frequented by roadies. I actually raced a few crits against one or two of them, or at least people who had a mash kit on, early this season. I can tell you that the ones I've come across are some seriously strong cyclists... especially the one who epicly dropped me climbing out of sausalito up to the golden gate bridge into a headwind, he was ridiculous.

point being I wouldn't put it past these, I guess you'd call them urban fixie pro's, to be monsters in other types of cycling.
