This hub straddles both SS&FG and C&V forums. I thought it might be of more interest here.

Looks like it's a pre-war British Hub Co. "Solo" drum brake hub. It's in great condition, 40 holes, British threads and lockring of course. 110 oln. It even looks like nickel plate but I can't tell for sure. Now what?

Lace it to a 700c Super Champion 58 and make a club bike? A Raleigh Sports EA3 ? An old roadster or delivery bike? Donate it to a museum...

dude that's awesome. I don't know how to service a drum brake but I want.

someone should reproduce that. i don't care if the market for it is like 5 people. and I say build it up to a pista concept, be ridiculous.

I got several hubs very similar to that: drum brake, freewheel body, and old. Very old. I thin it's called Galaxy. I don't remember the manufacturer off the top of my head, though. I painted one in red and built a wheel around it, but never used it. For now.

I've seen similar Sturmey Archer drum hubs before but they were also built for freewheels without lockrings. I'm just wondering what type of Brit-bike used a boat anchor fixed rear hub? Club, path, roadster etc. Fixed gear was the transmission of choice in the early 20th century but we asscoiate them with track/path/road racing. Maybe all manner of bikes used them? Luv to see a pic of that Galaxy someday.

So, as you can see, it's a Sachs GALAXE HT. Drum brake built in, and a very rare, proprietary cassette spline. Luckily I have the cogs/sprockets for it. And I have not, actually laced a wheel around one, I only painted it and almost got the spokes of the correct length, but then I lost a couple of them (it's a long story how that happened).

That's on the wild side isn't it. It reminds me of Harden Bacon slicer high flange hubs on the drive side. A built in spoke protector. Over the years, I think Sachs has been one of the most innovative component manufacturers as well as most under recognized. Duomatic hubs, freewheels, chains, derailleurs, internal hubs ...they've partnered with other makers and continued to market some very cutting edge products.

Google chain. Search for the auction listing in google, then find out that those shoes "might" go to a sachs hub, then find the most relevant results and completely ignore the date of submission.

i.e. people don't know how to use the ****ing internet.

I'm asking Clubman if he needs new shoes for his 'Solo' brake hub, if he still has it, as I was searching for 'Solite' hubs for myself! No need to be offensive!
