Bikes: Paramount Series 3 PDG-'91; Specialized Stumpjumper-'06; Trek 400-'92; Peugeot hybrid fixed gear conversion-late 80's?

Personally, I couldn't give a **** less about what kind of bike WalMart sells, or who buys it, or what people think when they see me riding down the road and wonder if I got my bike at Wally World.

I just hope that WalMart starts selling 700c tires and tubes so if I ever get a flat at 2AM on sunday I can get a spare.

Walmart's in my area sell them! I just get scared about the quality.

But they stopped being the only kid on the block with one forever ago... I mean hell you can get a Scrambler frame for 150 0n ebay or a full built bike from BD for 100 more than WM so its way more accessible than it ever was... If anything I'm looking forward to a day when the parts prices come back to a normal level heh... the whole scene blowing up will take out the kitsch/trendy of it all and thus we will no longer see inflated prices based on "cool"...

its just like skateboarding, you spend 130 bucks on a board and you're at the park and see some guy on a cheap0 one, i don't get mad..i just think he may be less fortunate than me. Everyone has their own level of "expensive" so maybe that's all he could get, so i understand and respect that.

Nice to see common sense surviving in the snobbish cacophony that is BFSSFG.

I read all six pages with a grin on my face. Then, I came to your comment and laughed aloud. Thanks for the simplicity.

OK! I saw one today! One of my co-workers ordered it two days ago and got it today. It looks amazingly good for the low price. 48 spoke wheels, flip flop rear hub. Frame size is 54 cm center bb to top of seat tube, if I recall correctly. It has a high bb so the stand over is like a 57 or 58 cm bike. He is out riding it right now and I am sure that he will give a first hand report soon, on this forum. I'm a bit of a bike snob myself, but I must say, this bike looks OK. Time will tell if it holds up, I'll keep an eye on it.

Well so much for the theory that these bikes are kid sized, so you can adjust them to fit anyone by just raising or lowering the seatpost. I have a 28" inseam, and by my calculation I'd have to remove the seapost and saddle, and sit on the frame just to reach the pedals properly. And for anyone under 5'-6", you can forget about standover clearance. Yeah, one size fits all.

Is it just me, or does Mongoose Cachet sound more like an awesome box wine than a bicycle?

So can you peel off the decals?

That is the HUGE difference.
Actually, they (and the other big box stores - but more Wally world) bully vendors into their pricing structure. Just read the countless articles on how companies have gone/almost gone bankrupt because of doing business with Wally. A client of mine has had several of their products in walmart for several years now, and it gets worse and worse each year. Although on paper it sounds good. When they launched a new product line, the buyer at walmart placed a "test order" of 300,000 units. But I know my client didn't even make $1 per unit off of that.

Oh, and the shipping - 37 lbs shipping weight. Those who said it has nothing to do due with true weight are correct. It's dimensional weight. At least for UPS it is something like [dimensional weight = length x height x width in inches divided by 198]
