Saw this about a week ago, I hate when they come out with mass market versions of a niche product, they always look so lame. Mongoose.. spent $300 on one of their mountain bike's once, which is expensive for Walmart, lasted a week. I was a fool.

I just bought 10.
Actually mongoose does make a decent ss sold on performance:

But just like schwinn, they make bikes for two markets...

Wish that was out before I bought my Steamroller......if you're not hardcore or don't do a lot of miles I'm sure it will do you just fine. Upgrade as things wear out. Strip the paint and leave it raw, take stickers off rims, take reflectors off, replace bars for $20 and you're good to go. As far as the whole "oh its not cool, walmart taking over my hipster fixie thing"....get over it, its already mainstream. Competition is good, it drives prices down. Someone should do a review

Well, it's finally over ... the Fixie Fad is no longer cool ...

Even though it's far more expensive than my present commuter/fixie I'm getting one... no doubt. I'll finally have an aluminum frame that I won't have to scrape rust off of every year due to the winter salt.

to be fair, it says single speed, not fixed gear.
is it just me, or is it missing the other crank?

Woohoo a new bike to look down on; hopefully the mongoose will take some heat of bikesdirect bike owners lol
Am I the only thinking of doing some stress tests on one of these cheapo bikes?

someone go tell road cycling, i don't think they know that road bikes have been made redundant by walmart years ago.

you definitely want a helmet and some body armour. They could be explosive.

well for all we know it may just be a rebranded frame kinesis frame much like many manufacturers. I'm mixed on the matter but it must be said it may get more people riding. If one thing the fixie craze has done, its get more people on the road. I'm actually surprised it took them this long to jump on... It might actually be too late. this also might take some of the price gouging that is going on out of the picture, much like BD.

I don't understand. EVERY DAY people come here and ask for "cheap" stuff because they are "broke" and "don't have much money" because they are a "poor college student" and only have "$200 total to do this conversion".
Well. Now you have an inexpensive bike that you can get today from Walmart down the street for $150.
If Walmart is good enough for college students (and lots and lots of other people) to buy 99% of their daily/weekly/monthly/annual needs...what's wrong with buying a single speed from there, too?

...I mean, yeah, it's gonna be a crap bike. But, no more of a POS than a LOT of conversions that I've seen come through here and seen on the street.
No, you aren't gonna win the TDF on it. But, it just might get you to work and class. And if it get's stolen, it costs less than your North Face to replace.
