i got the XL, i'm 6'5, in the past i've ridden 58, 59 and 60cm frames, they were all comfortable with the right adjustments but i've found the 60 to be the most comfortable fit, i think my arms would feel cramped on the L madison no matter what i'd done to it. i'll let you know how well it fits when it arrives

hi all...
i've been waffling back & forth on one of those $300 nashbar madisons for a while, especially when they offer their 10-15% off codes & don't bump up the price.
but i have been trying to find out, with no success, whether the rear hub is flip-flop in the sense that is it the kind with one freewheel dedicated side that will not accept a lockring or if it has the fixed threading on both sides so 2 cogs/lockrings can fit on it if i want to swap the fw off?
can anyone here answer? appreciate any help!
btw...the purple 2011 may be horrendous but imho the red doesn't look all that bad

Thanks for the reply soyboy. What color did you get? Highly considering picking up one of the 2010's in maroon, but unsure of the color. Anyone got some good pics of theirs?

i'd ordered the maroon thinking that it was actually black(as the nashbar customer service rep had told me on online chat that the frame was black and yellow but the grips were maroon) but i'm digging the color, i guess it'd never seen it in person before but it's pretty, a much deeper color than the brown.

i got it yesterday, and assembled it lastnight, immediately put the stock saddle and wheels on my old frame, they seemed fine but the white was a huge turn off personally and i would rather ride my DA hubs, i flipped and spun the bars so i'm using them as cruisers, the grips that came with the bike kinda suck but i was expecting that, otherwise i really dig it, the bars are stiff, as is the frame(for steel), the white cranks aren't as bad without the white wheels/saddle but i'm still thinking about swapping them out for silver colored, though they seem strong and stiff

i haven't used the pedals but they seem like with a repacking they'd be alright, the clips seem flimsy but usable and the straps are weak and slidey.

overall i love the frame, stem headset, and bars, and i'm really happy with the purchase. at 300bones a much better bargain than anything i've seen from bikes direct, grab one if you're on the market

Look, disco, as others mentioned in the other threads, standover height is a very very minor factor when you're looking to buy a bike.

Top tube and head tube length should be the most important things to look at.

Just FYI, my Madison and my Leader are both relatively similar...the Leader of course has a longer top tube, but the stand over height is like 2" difference. I'm uploading a few photos here soon.

They are both lying on the floor, I chose to flip the photo so it's easier to comprihend... the seat tube's almost line up perfectly.

As you can see the Leader is a headtube longer than the Madison, but the top tube height is much lower.

Yeah, what's real smart advice!

To a certain degree. But on a track bike, this is stupid at times. If I bought a Madison with the right TT length I wanted and to match my road bike geo, I would have had to get a L instead of a small. Then the seat would be all the way down. Then I still might to reach the pedals (Maybe), let alone have ANY stand over what so ever.

On a small, I have the seat pretty low and I am still 4-5 cm short on TT length. Yes, with a setback seatpost, I cannot lower the seat anymore and I am at the limit on how high I should be.

Ordered a Small Maroon on Friday. Talked to a Nashbar rep. There are no more small browns, and only 16 maroons left (make that 15 since I got the email that mine shipped Friday afternoon).

I think this will mostly live at my gf's house as she is still learning the finer details of riding a geared bike -- like which hand shifts front and which shifts rear. I've got Cinelli road drops from my old '99 Specialized Allez (cracked frame in a wreck) which I may just put on right away instead of the ones that come on the bike. I have both white and black tape in the parts chest at home to pick from.

Okay, I see your point. The top tube thing doesn't apply to Madisons or Leaders; one have extremely short seat tube to top tube ratio, one have a lot. I still look at top tube and head tube lengths for other bikes though, it's just my personal preference for my body.

Yes, however I didn't attempt it as I like the look of the FOER.

Figured I'd post my Madison in the Madison thread. Picked this up for $260 on Nashbar with coupon. Switched to flat bar and cork grips as well as added stainless cable guides for about $50. Also had my LBS swap out crappy and loud freewheel for a Shimano on for another $20. Not a bad rig for $330 with upgrades. Don't know much about Single Speed bikes like I do road bikes, but from what I can see this is one of the best values out there. Wanted a just "get on and go" bike. No spandex, cleats or computers.

So would you describe the color as caramel? Those wheels remind me of a candy shoppe

They call it "Brown" but it has a green tint to it. Very classic looking. I am happy with finish. No visible flaws.
