I've decided (new to me frame)
#1
I'm going to pick up an old Schwinn cruiser frame (you know, 70's fillet brazed, HEAVY) and see if I can fit my Surly/Velocity Dyad fixed wheels on it. I have this vision in my head of building it up with old school BMX anodized parts. Whether or not I will do anything with it will be a different story, but I have the parts now to build it up with fairly original old cruiser stuff. Also, I have a ton of N.O.S. forks, I see this as having a cantilever stud fork. Hmmm
Meanwhile, this is also tempting:

Wow, that's nice and pretty!
However, my wrists wouldn't be too happy with another road frame. I don't know why I posted that one from eBay, other than the canti studs and it's my size.
I'm thinking something more like this, but old school, anodized parts, and with some kind of cruiser or BMX (read:upright) bars. Is this anyone's bike?

Buy a gyro. And when did brake cables ever get in the way of BMX? Can't spin the bars all the way around? This post really looks like something out an issue of BMX Plus from the late 80's.

Um, as far as wheels go, you are going to be able to fit a set of 100/110 hubs on that baby. Same as standard bmx stuff. In fact, you should pick up a wheelset that is made for the Redline Monocog. I think JensonUSA has them for relatively cheap and they use Redline BMX hubs.
As far as a canti-fork on the front, take a look at one of my recent projects below. Screwed up the geometry a bit, but the extra braking power is definitely welcome. You can see more on my posts here, here, here, and here.
I recently picked up a '71 Schwinn cruiser, geared 5 speed in the back, but built up with knobbies and BMX riser, caliper brakes, etc. I can't find much info on it and am wondering if it was someones early foray into mountain biking, or a mutant BMX project, or a factory build. I'll try and post a pic or two later.

Hey Pete, your bike is beautiful! That's actually pretty similar to what I had in mind. I just picked up my frame Friday out at Memory Lane Classics. Although I haven't done anything with it yet, I'm pretty excited. I've been exploring my options for cranks (so I don't have to use a one-piece Ashtabula), I think I'll either go with the machined aluminum cups that you press in and bolt together, and screw in a euro bottom bracket from there. That, or there are actually BB's that are one-piece in fashion, but have a square tapered spindle instead of a crank running through the center of them. I love www.danscomp.com
As for the frame spacing, I'm going to try to re-space it and tweak the dropouts back inward so they're parallel. I love my new wheelset (and dropped some big (for me)$$ on it)
Yeah, post a pic (if you can) of that other cruiser. Schwinn did make a Cruiser 5 in the 80's, but the riser BMX bars wouldn't have been custom. Somebody just posted about a Cruiser 5 on here maybe a few months ago?

you know, I kinda like the flat bars on the blue cruiser on top. It gives a bit of an agressive look, kinda like, "yea, I'm curvy...BUT I CAN STILL RIP YOUR BALLS OFF! LETS DO SOME SINGLETRACK!" heh, you get the idea. theres a guy (I'm assuming byt the size of the frame) who's got a "mtn cruiser" around here. flat black, but with a black riser, blacked out wheels and of course, SS. it was parked outside of a dining hall the other day. I think it looked cool.
